South Haven P.O. to change hours

The U.S. Post Office held a public meeting last Wednesday, Sept. 25, for residents and postal customers in South Haven. Only about 7 or 8 of the 1,200-plus postal customers attended the meeting.

Based on an earlier customer survey, and last week’s meeting, a notice was posted at the South Haven Post Office Tuesday morning, Oct. 1, announcing the changes that will take place effective Nov. 16, 2013.

The Post Office in South Haven will provide six hours of window service, from 7-11 a.m. and 2-4 p.m. Monday-Friday; this represents a half-hour reduction each day. Mail will be available at P.O. boxes between 6:45 a.m. and 4:15 p.m. Monday-Friday.

Saturday hours will not change, with window hours remaining 8:30-10 a.m., and mail availability from 7 a.m.-2 p.m.

Mail delivered to P.O. boxes should be available for pick-up after 9 a.m. daily.

Doug Wilhelm retired as Postmaster of the South Haven Post Office in August 2013. Patty Nelson is the current acting Postmaster until a part-time postal clerk is hired permanently.

Again, the changes do not begin until Nov. 16. The two biggest changes are a longer lunch break when the Post Office is closed, and earlier start hours Monday-Friday.

New hours have been announced for the Post Office in South Haven beginning Nov. 16, 2013. Saturday delivery and hours remain the same; Monday-Friday hours now are 7-11 a.m. and 2-4 p.m.
