Paynesville sex offender update

Level III sex offender Michael Shawn Klappenbach was released from jail Oct. 13 to live in a home on Pirz Lake Road in rural Paynesville. 

He was re-arrested late Wednesday night, Oct. 30, and is currently in the Stearns County jail, being held without bail. He was arrested on a Department of Corrections warrant with felony-level charges and no anticipated release date. 

School bus fire, no injuries

Thursday, Oct 31, at 7:48 a.m., the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a school bus on fire in front of the address of 65260 288th Street in Forest City Township, and that all of the persons were out of the bus and there were no injuries. Meeker County Sheriff’s Deputies and Litchfield Fire Department were dispatched. Upon the deputies’ arrival, a Hicks school bus was smoking heavily and the driver and approximately 43 children were being loaded into a second Hicks school bus. The driver indicated that she noticed an odor and then smoke coming from control panel in the driver’s compartment, and immediately evacuated the children, expended the on-board fire extinguisher, and called for assistance. Upon arrival of the Litchfield Fire Department, the front of bus was fully engulfed in flames and it was quickly extinguished.

The bus was a total loss and had to be towed from the scene. The estimated value of the bus is $60,000.

 

Wright County Sheriff’s Office

Oct. 28, Richard Reed Oster, 26 of South Haven, was arrested in Buffalo on a Wright County warrant for theft.

Oct. 28, Lisa Ann Potter, 48 of Annandale, was arrested in Corinna Township on an apprehension and detention order from Wright County.

Oct. 28, David Michael Tikkanen, 44 of Annandale, was arrested in Rockford Township on the charges of first-degree DWI and driving after cancellation inimical to public safety.

Nov. 1, Micheal Anthony Sparks, 38 of Annandale, was arrested in Annandale on a Wright County warrant for violation of a domestic abuse no contact order.

Nov. 2, Hunter Fielding Coughlin, 24 of Maple Lake, was arrested in Albion Township on the charges of terroristic threats, third-degree DWI and obstructing the legal process.

Meeker County Sheriff’s Office

Sunday, November 3

12:17 a.m. the Sheriff’s Office responded to and dispatched Eden Valley Rescue Squad and Watkins Ambulance for a medical at a residence on Church Street South, City of Eden Valley. One individual was transported to Paynesville Hospital.

1:35 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office received a report of identity theft at Sparboe Farms, MN Highway 22, Litchfield Township.

7:02 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office observed a car/deer accident in the area of MN Highway 15 and Kingston Street, Kingston Township. The deputy observed minor damage to the vehicle which was drivable and issued the driver a deer possession tag.

9:14 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office attempted to conduct a traffic stop in the area of MN Highway 24 and County State Aid Highway 34, Darwin Township. The vehicle failed to stop and a short vehicle pursuit ensued northbound on County State Aid Highway 34 to a residence on 617th Avenue, Manannah Township. The deputy, with the assistance of the Litchfield Police Department, followed the vehicle onto the property and was able to prevent the suspect vehicle from escaping. The driver, Earl Harrison Coe, age 67, of Eden Valley, was arrested for fleeing police officer in a motor vehicle, driving after cancellation, small amount of marijuana, 3rd degree controlled substance and switching plates on a motor vehicle.

Saturday, November 2

2:00 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office took a report of a burglary at a residence on County State Aid Highway 2, Forest City.

3:57 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office received a report of a driving complaint near a residence on 3rd Street South, Watkins.

4:51 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office responded to and dispatched the Eden Valley Fire Department to a report of a harvested corn field fire near the intersection of 360th Street, and 602nd Avenue, Manannah Township. The owner was able to extinguish the fire prior to the fire department’s arrival. There was no monetary loss.

5:04 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a two-vehicle property damage accident at the intersection of MN Highway 55 and Central Avenue, Watkins. No injuries were reported. The MN State Patrol also responded and wrote the report.

6:56 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office responded to assist the Eden Valley Police Department with a report of a driving complaint near a residence on Park Street, City of Eden Valley.

9:03 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle near the intersection of Vail Street and Cossairt Avenue, City of Eden Valley. The deputy located the unoccupied vehicle, checked the area and found all to be okay.

Friday, November 1

5:21 a.m. the Sheriff’s Office, per the request of Stearns County, paged Eden Valley Rescue for a medical at an address on County Road 180, Eden Lake Township. A short time later Stearns County called back and advised to cancel rescue.

7:41 a.m. the Sheriff’s Office received a report of a car/deer accident on County State Aid Highway 34 and 350th Street, Forest Prairie Township.

8:46 a.m. the Sheriff’s Office dispatched Eden Valley Rescue and Watkins Ambulance to a medical at a residence on 365th Street, Union Grove Township. One individual was transported to Paynesville Hospital.

10:29 a.m. the Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a vehicle in the ditch on MN Highway 15, 305th Street, Kingston Township. The deputy arrived and the vehicle is no longer in the area.

Thursday, October 31

3:58 a.m. the Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of suspicious activity at a residence on MN Highway 15, North Kingston Township. The deputy checked and the individuals were no longer in the area. A report was taken.

2:03 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office arrested Rusty William Hubert Staten, age 24, South Haven, during a traffic stop on Meeker Avenue South, Watkins. He was arrested on a Stearns County warrant and also cited for driving after revocation.  Custody was turned over a Stearns County deputy.

5:15 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of suspicious activity at a residence on Meeker Avenue South, Watkins.  The deputy found everything to be fine at the time of his arrival.

Wednesday, October 30

2:08 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office took a report of a dog complaint at a residence on Meeker Avenue South, Watkins.

6:41 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office received a report of a civil issue at a property near the intersection of County State Aid Highway 3 and County State Aid Highway 30, Manannah. The deputy spoke to the individual and advised it was a civil issue.

7:37 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office responded along with Eden Valley Police Department to a domestic situation at a residence on Cedar Avenue South, Watkins. A report was taken.

Tuesday, October 29

9:03 a.m. the Sheriff’s Office responded to a dog complaint at a residence on 567th Avenue, Manannah Township. 

11:13 a.m. the Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a property damage accident at Gold Country Seeds, MN Highway 15, Collinwood Township. 

7:09 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office responded to an animal complaint on County State Aid Highway 21, Kingston Township. The cow was gone upon the arrival of the deputy.

Monday, October 28

3:19 a.m. the Sheriff’s Office dispatched Watkins Ambulance for a medical at St. Anthony Manor, Church Street, City of Watkins. One individual was transported to
St. Cloud Hospital.

12:15 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of trespassing at the St. Anthony Manor on Church Street, Watkins. Upon arrival the deputy the individual had left. 

8:59 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office responded to a car/deer accident on County State Aid Highway 3, Manannah Township. There were no injuries reported. The deputy issued a deer possession tag for the animal.
