Local crime blotters Feb. 27, 2014

Two-car crash with injuries

Thursday, Feb. 20, at 4:27 p.m., the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office, Minnesota State Patrol, Dassel Fire and Rescue, and Gold Cross Ambulance responded to Minnesota Highway 15 and 235th Street, Dassel Township, for a two-vehicle personal injury accident.

Jocelyn Schwartz, 23 of Elk River, was traveling north on Highway 15 in a Grand Prix SE sedan when she lost control and crossed into oncoming traffic. Schwartz collided with Aaron O’Connell, 19 of Williams, Minn., who was driving south on Highway 15 in a Ford Fusion. Schwartz was taken by Gold Cross Ambulance to Meeker Memorial Hospital. O’Connell was treated at the scene.

Both cars were a total loss.

This crash is under investigation by the Minnesota State Patrol.

Brian Cruze to run for Sheriff

Brian Cruze of Litchfield has announced his candidacy for Meeker County Sheriff. In a recent letter, he states the following:

• He has an A.A. degree in business from Ridgewater College, and a B.A. degree in Criminal Justice from St. Cloud State University.

• His law enforcement career began in 1994 as a patrol deputy for the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office.

Local crime blotters Feb 20, 2013

Collision in North Kingston

At 8 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office, Minnesota State Patrol, Minnesota DNR, Kimball Fire and Rescue, and Watkins Ambulance responded to a report of a personal-injury accident on Minnesota State Highway 15 at the intersection of 345th Street in North Kingston Township.

A 2005 Chevrolet Impala driven by Michael Thompson, 39 of Annandale, was northbound on Hwy. 15 when it crossed over the center line and struck a southbound 2014 Peterbilt semi driven by Jesse Albright, 35 of Royalton. After striking the semi, Thompson’s car then struck a southbound 2005 Ford Crown Victoria driven by Timothy Fennema, 47 of South Haven. Thompson was treated at the scene for minor cuts by Kimball Rescue and declined transport to the hospital. No other injuries were reported. This crash is being investigated by the Minnesota State Patrol.

There were 14 miscellaneous calls, 7 public assist calls, 4 alarms, 2 citations, 2 assists to other departments, 2 arrests, and one each of the following: motorist assist, verbal warning, domestic call, accident, dog complaint, and theft.

Watkins crime blotter (by Meeker County Sheriff’s Office)

In January 2014 there were: 9 traffic stops, 3 animal complaints, 3 medical calls, 2 property-damage accidents, 2 unlocks, and one each of the following: public assist, graffiti (still being resolved), open door, snowmobile complaint, juvenile trouble, ordinance violation, parking violation, vulnerable adult, domestic, hit-and-run.

The Meeker County Sheriff’s Office has changed police regarding pickup of stray dogs: they won’t come out to pick up a dog unless there’s been a bite, or the dog poses a public threat. This way, deputies can be available for more important calls. This policy is county-wide.

A new cop, Ryan, has been working some in Watkins but will be assigned to Grove City (and not replacing Josh Case in Watkins).

Wright County Sheriff’s Office

Feb. 11, Leonard William Driscoll, 28 of Maple Lake, was arrested in Buffalo on a Wright County warrant for theft.

Feb. 12, Jesse Ray Pontosa McKenna, 27 of Richmond, was arrested in Benton County on a Wright County warrant for theft.

Feb. 13, Cynthia Lynn Gebert, 36 of Maple Lake, was arrested in Monticello on the charges of false information to police, fifth-degree controlled substance violation, and methamphetamine paraphernalia accessible to children.

Feb. 14, Brandon Scott Rapinac, 44 of Annandale, was arrested in Annandale on the charge of third-degree DWI.

Feb. 15, Cami Jo McClure, 31 of Maple Lake, was arrested in Maple Lake on the charge of second-degree DWI.

Feb. 17, Joshua Scott Dugstad, 21 of Rockford, was arrested in Buffalo on Wright County warrants for third- degree criminal sexual conduct and fourth-degree burglary.

There were 69 property-damage accidents, 10 personal-injury accidents, 4 hit-and-run accidents, and
4 car-deer accidents.

There were 5 arrests for DWI,
3 school bus stop-arm violations, and 61 tickets for miscellaneous traffic violations reported this week.

Monday, February 17, 2014

12:35 a.m. the Sheriff’s Office responded to and dispatched the Litchfield Fire Department to a report of a fire in the ditch on MN Hwy. 22, Greenleaf Township. The fire was caused by a downed power line, due to high winds. The power was shut off and the fire was put out.

9:26 a.m. the Sheriff’s Office received a report of graffiti at a residence on 362nd Street, Forest Prairie Township. No damage of property was reported.

9:40 a.m. the Sheriff’s Office dispatched Litchfield Rescue Squad and Watkins Ambulance to a medical at the Holiday gas station on East US Highway 12, Litchfield. One individual was transported to Meeker Memorial Hospital.

11:25 a.m. the Sheriff’s Office received a report of harassment at a residence on Central Avenue North, Watkins.

1:13 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office received a report of graffiti at a residence on 654th Avenue, Forest Prairie Township. No damage of property was reported.

Sunday, February 16

7:20 a.m. the Sheriff’s Office dispatched Litchfield Rescue Squad and Watkins Ambulance to a medical at a residence on North Holcombe Avenue, Litchfield. One individual was transported to Meeker Memorial Hospital.

 2:26 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office dispatched Watkins Ambulance to a medical on Luella Street, Watkins. One individual was transported to Paynesville Hospital.

2:35 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a vehicle in the ditch on 373rd Street and 600th Avenue, Manannah Township. The vehicle was towed from the ditch, and no damage was reported.

5:15 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office responded to and dispatched Kimball Rescue Squad and Gold Cross Ambulance to a medical at a residence on 325th Street, Kimball. One individual was transported to Meeker Memorial Hospital.

Saturday, February 15

7:24 a.m. the Sheriff’s Office dispatched Dassel Rescue Squad and Gold Cross Ambulance to a medical at a residence on County State Aid Highway 21, Kingston Township. One individual was transported to Hutchinson Hospital.

11:49 a.m. the Sheriff’s Office dispatched Eden Valley Rescue Squad to a medical alarm at a residence on County Road 180, Stearns County. The Eden Valley Rescue Squad arrived on scene and it was an accidental alarm. 

2:54 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office received a report of criminal property damage at a residence on 350th Street, Forest Prairie Township.

5:37 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office took a report for a request to check the welfare of an individual at a residence on Stearns Avenue North, City of Watkins.

8:07 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a property damage accident at a residence on 323rd Street, Kingston Township. The deputy made contact with the vehicle owner, observed minor damage to the vehicle and was advised of their options.

Friday, February 14

6:06 a.m. the Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a one vehicle rollover on 617th Avenue and 370th Street, Manannah Township. No injuries were reported, and a report was taken.

2:24 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office took a report of theft from a fish house on Lake Ripley.

Thursday, February 13

8:23 a.m. the Sheriff’s Office received a report of a personal-injury rollover accident on MN Hwy 24 and 305th Street, Forest City Township.  Minor injuries were reported. State Patrol arrived on scene and cancelled Meeker County Deputies.

8:50 a.m. the Sheriff’s Office came upon an occupied stalled vehicle on County State Aid Highway 2 and MN Highway 55, Watkins. The vehicle was towed from the ditch.

10:06 a.m. the Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of an open door at a residence on Stearns Avenue North, Watkins. The deputy made contact with the homeowner and everything was okay.

Wednesday, February 12

6:34 a.m. the Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a property damage accident with a deer on MN Highway 15, Dassel Township. Upon arrival of the deputy the deer was put down and a deer permit was issued.

10:06 a.m. the Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a dog complaint at a residence on 320th Street, Kingston. Upon arrival of the deputy a warning was issued.

10:26 a.m. the Sheriff’s Office received a report of child abuse at a residence on State Street South, Eden Valley. The information was referred to the Eden Valley Police Department.

1:24 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office assisted the Stearns County Community Corrections at a residence on Cedar Avenue South, Watkins.

3:26 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office dispatched the Watkins Ambulance to a medical at the Hilltop Care Center on Luella Street in Watkins. One individual was transported to the St. Cloud Hospital.

4:55 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office dispatched Watkins Ambulance and the Eden Valley Rescue Squad to a medical at Todd’s Place on State Street North, Eden Valley. One individual was transported to the St. Cloud Hospital.

7:35 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office received a report of harassment at a residence on 587th Avenue, Manannah Township. An individual was advised of their options and a report will be filed.

Tuesday, February 11

9:01 a.m. the Sheriff’s Office assisted the Eden Valley Police Department with a welfare check at a residence on State Street South, Eden Valley.

3:53 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office arrested Jason Deheer, 38 of Watkins, on a McLeod County Warrant.

5:00 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office responded to and assisted the public at a residence on 373rd Street, Manannah Township.

5:22 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office arrested Dale Douglas Swart, 18 of Watkins, on a Meeker County Apprehension and Detention Order.

6:30 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office responded to and contacted the MN State Patrol to the report of round bales of hay on MN Highway 24 near 285th Street, Forest City Township. The deputy, with the assistance of a passerby with a plow truck, removed the hay from the roadway.

Monday, February 10

1:53 a.m. the Sheriff’s Office responded to and dispatched Eden Valley Rescue Squad and Watkins Ambulance for a report of a medical at a residence on 617th Avenue, Manannah Township. One individual was transported to Paynesville Hospital.

9:55 a.m. the Sheriff’s Office took a report of theft from a residence on Western Avenue North, Watkins.

5:30 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office responded to a welfare check at a residence on 365th Street, Manannah Township. The deputy made contact with all parties involved and filed a report.

 

House fire in Forest City Twp.

Monday, Feb. 17, at 10:47 p.m., the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office, Watkins Fire Department, Eden Valley Fire Department, Kimball Fire Department, Litchfield Police Department and Gold Cross Ambulance responded to a report of a two-story house fire at 33183 CSAH 2, Forest City Township.

The house was owned by Thomas and Marie Moyer of Watkins and was being rented by Wayne Erstad, 63, of Watkins and Celestino Deliz, 59, of Watkins. Wayne Erstad called and reported that he noticed smoke coming from the basement area of the house. The house and property inside were soon engulfed in flames and were a total loss. The personal property in the house was valued at $10,000. The value of the house is unknown at this time.

There were no injuries as a result of this house fire. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined and the State Fire Marshal was contacted about the house fire.

Snowmobile v. pickup crash

Saturday, Feb. 8, the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office, Gold Cross Ambulance and Rockville rescue responded to an accident involving a vehicle and a snowmobile on Evergreen Road near CR 8 in Maine Prairie Township. A 2013 Polaris snowmobile driven by Ron Reitmeier, 38 of Rockville, was traveling south on the state snowmobile trail, approaching Evergreen Road. Reitmeier failed to stop at the road right of way and drove into the side of a Dodge Dakota truck. The truck was driven by Ryan Wimmer, 26, St. Cloud. Reitmeier was treated on scene, complaining only of minor injuries to his shoulder.
