Pedal Pilgrimage had beautiful day

The bikers on the 2013 Pedal Pilgrimage enjoyed nearly perfect cycling weather as they made their way from St. Gertrude’s Catholic Church in Forest City to the Grasshopper Chapel in Cold Spring, Minn. The sun was out, and temperature of a slight head wind was cool and pleasant. Once the 14 pilgrims climbed out of the river flats around Forest City they had nothing but rolling hills heading north on CSAH 2.W-Pedal-Pilgrimage-P1110078

The pedal pilgrimage combines physical and spiritual exercise. The pilgrims stop at churches at Watkins and St. Nicholas, along the 20-mile route to pray, visit and snack. It is always a fun event. Just enough exercise to feel a sense of accomplishment and just enough prayer to grow in appreciation for God’s love for humanity and historical miracles attributed to the Blessed Mother Mary in our area.

St. Anthony's Picnic in the Park

St. Anthony's parish in Watkins held their annual festival, "Picnic in the Park" in McCarthy Park Sunday, Aug. 25. The day W-DSCF1744happened to be the beginning of a sweltering heat spell, but that didn't deter many.

Despite the very hot weather, St. Anthony’s Picnic in the Park was a wonderful day of celebration. With the shade and the breeze in the park, we had a pretty comfortable day. The beer and pop were ice cold to refresh us, and the food was excellent. Stan’s Country Dutchmen and Wild 99 provided our musical entertainment.

Hundreds turn out for Deegan’s Drive for Donors

Hundreds of motorcyclists and a handful of classic car owners took part in “Deegan’s Drive for Donors” that pulled out of Marty Sunday, Aug. 18, at noon and headed to Manannah.W-TCN-bikers

The road was filled with horse power and the air with noise as the bikes and muscle cars sent a message to heaven for a little boy named Deegan who was diagnosed with a brain malformation shortly before his second birthday. Deegan P. Johnson-Pramann died at only 22-months old, but his organs were donated so that others could live.
