The Minnesota Civil War Commemorative Task Force will honor Minnesota soldiers killed at the Battle of Gettysburg during Memorial Day events this weekend. First Sergeant James Ackers, killed on July 2, 1863 during the 1st Minnesota Volunteer Infantry Regiment’s charge at Gettysburg, will be commemorated in a ceremony at Oakwood Cemetery, 1865 140th Street in Hastings beginning at 6 p.m. Friday. Friday evening at 6:30 p.m. at Oakwood Cemetery at 1865 140th Street in Hastings; in a unique twilight ceremony for Sargent James Akers.
A ceremony commemorating the life of Captain Wilson B. Farrell, 1st Minnesota Volunteer Infantry Company C, killed on July 3, 1863 during the famed Pickett’s Charge at Gettysburg, will commence at 11:30 a.m. at Oakland Cemetery, 927 Jackson Street in St. Paul.
Captain Louis Muller, also killed during the 1st Minnesota’ July 2, 1863 charge, will be remembered in a ceremony at 11:30 a.m. Monday at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Bayport, Minnesota.
All ceremonies are free and opened to the public. Media members are encouraged to attend.
