Kingston Legion met March 25

The members of the Kingston Johnson Kelly American Legion and Auxiliary met Tuesday evening, March 25, 2014, at the Kingston American Legion Hall.

Spouses and guests were invited to attend, and all enjoyed the annual March pot luck supper honoring March, American Legion Birthday Month.

Following the dinner fellowship, separate meetings were held.

The Johnson Kelly Post meeting was called to order by Commander Keith Hanson. The American Legion Auxiliary was called to order by vice president Marie Williamson, with all repeating the Pledge of Allegience to the American Flag, singing the “Star Spangled Banner”, and repeating the Preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion Auxiliary. Prayers were by chaplain Chris Jeppesen, minutes read by secretary Rose Olson, and treasurer’s report by Mary Jane Arens.

Our Girls State representative this year will be Emma Pringnitz. Emma attends Dassel-Cokato High School.

Our Kingston Legion Auxiliary charters indicating when the Legion Auxiliary was formed, have been located and will be reframed and refinished so they can be on display at the Kingston Legion Hall again. In charge are Linda Atkinson and Chris Jeppesen.

February was Americanization Month. Be proud to display your flag! March is Community Service Month. The Kingston American Legion Auxiliary chose home and yard beautification  for spring and summer project. March is also American Legion Birthday Month. Happy Birthday to all legionnaires and veterans. April will be Children and Youth Month.

Let’s be aware of our veterans’ children and youth. Read books to children. Teach them reading, writing and arithmetic (math).

It is time for chairpersons of our Kingston American Legion Auxiliary yearly programs, to fill out our forms, as they are due by April 15, 2014. The date set is Friday, April 4, and Saturday, April 5, at the Legion Hall.

The Kingston Johnson Kelly American Legion Post and Auxiliary wish to thank everyone for attending our annual fish fry Friday evening, March 21. Your presence was much appreciated.

Lunch committee for Tuesday, April 29, meeting are Sandy Smith and Mary Jane Arens.

A number of auxiliary members brought snack items, etc., to be packed and sent to deployed service men and women in Afghanistan, our members from the National Guard in Litchfield, and service men and women werever they are serving.
