Loretta Brutger, 93

Loretta Brutger of Watkins died Sunday, March 24, 2013, at the Hilltop Health Care Center in Watkins. She was 93.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 27, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Watkins with Fr. John Brunner and Fr. Richard Gross officiating. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, and from 9-10 a.m. Wednesday, at the Ertl Funeral Home in Watkins. Watkins Senior Citizens will pray the Rosary at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home followed by parish prayers at 4:30 p.m. and Wat-Kim-Valley VFW Post 5460 prayers at 6:30 p.m. Interment will be in the St. Nicholas Catholic Cemetery in St. Nicholas.

Loretta M. Brutger was born June 30, 1919, in Cold Spring to Jacob and Elizabeth (Molitor) Theis. Loretta was united in marriage to August M. Brutger in 1939 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring. They resided in Watkins where Loretta was a full-time homemaker raising her family, baking 10 to 12 loaves of bread on a daily basis. When the kids were grown and gone from home, she worked in housekeeping at the Hilltop Health Care Center and at Richard’s Magic Rock Garden in Watkins. She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Watkins, and was active with the Council of Catholic Women. She enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing and volunteering at the Hilltop Health Care Center. She also enjoyed traveling and fishing on Lake Michigan. Loretta always had time to visit with family and friends, and she especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, always having the candy bowl available for them. Loretta was a member of the Watkins Senior Citizens, the Wat-Kim-Valley VFW Post 5460; the Red Hats of Hilltop, and the Nick Nackers Homemakers. Her husband August died in 1987, and Loretta became a resident at the Hilltop Health Care Center about 7 and one-half years ago.

Loretta was preceded in death by her parents; husband August; son Andrew; infant twin sons; son-in-law Harold Hickman; sisters Christine Jungles, Adeline Mathias, Agatha Birk, Barbara Ficker; and brother Herbert Theis.

She is survived by her children and their spouses Esther Hickman of Watkins, Donald (and Linda) Brutger of Cold Spring, Elmer (and Lona) Brutger of Eden Valley, Al (and Dorothy) Brutger of Eden Valley, Vernon (and Lucy) Brutger of Watkins, Doris (and Nick) Thielen of Eden Valley, Leon (and Becky) Brutger of Cokato, Mary Kay (and John) Magoon of Royalton, Mark (and Pam) Brutger of Watkins; 29 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; special friend Charlie Larson of Cold Spring; and sister Dorothy Kosloski of St. Cloud.

Casket bearers will be Michael Brutger, Millard Hickman, Lester Brutger, Jeremy Brutger, Steven Brutger, Troy Huschle, Calvin Press, Corey Press, Aaron Brutger, and Trent Brutger.
