Viola Frederick of Annandale died Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at the Annandale Care Center. She was 100.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 10, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Annandale with Pastor Dave Nelson officiating. Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, at Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Annandale, and one hour prior to the service Friday at the church. Burial will follow at the Cokato Finnish Cemetery.
Viola Marie Frederick was born Jan. 27, 1913, in Middle River to Walter and Anna (Nicka) Matsen. She was united in marriage to Clifford Widlund; he preceded her in death. She was later united in marriage to Lawrence Frederick; he also preceded her in death. She lived most of her life in Annandale, living a short time in Minneapolis and Walker. Viola owned and operated Mom’s Café in South Haven in the 1950s, and went on to work at the Twin Cities Arsenal in New Brighton. She was a former member of the Walker Legion Auxiliary. Viola enjoyed fishing, traveling, wintering in Arizona and summering in Annandale.
Viola is preceded in death by her parents Walter and Anna; her husbands Clifford and Lawrence; three infant sons; 10 brothers; and five sisters.
She is survived by her daughter Caroline Rimer of Robbinsdale; five grandchildren Richard Rimer, Randy Rimer, Ronda Held, Robbie Rimer, and Rona Nesser; eight great-grandchildren; brother Kenneth (and Barb) Lantto of Edina; and sister Betty Jane (and Clinton) Lambert of Buffalo.
Pallbearers will be Richard J. III, Christopher, Justin, and Tanya Rimer, Nick Listul, Joey Nesser, Ryan Held, and Tara Nesser. Arrangements are entrusted with Dingmann Funeral Care Burial & Cremation Services of Annandale.
