Robert Helm of South Haven died Thursday, May 30, 2013, at the St. Cloud Hospital. He was 77.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, June 3, at the Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel with Rev. Michael Nelson officiating. A time to gather with the family will be held from 4-6 p.m. Monday afternoon at the funeral home at 611 N. 2nd Street in Dassel.
Robert Dennis Helm was born Sept.19, 1935, at the Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis to Charles and Lorraine (Lehman) Helm. He grew up and attended school in the South Minneapolis area. Robert was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
Robert was united in marriage Aug. 23, 1970, to Bernice Voight. Together they have made their home in the South Haven area. He was employed by Minnesota Roadways for more than 20 years and retired in 2008 at the age of 72.
He loved to spend time with his family and enjoyed playing pool, and pull tabs. When Robert was younger, he enjoyed bowling, softball, boxing, track, basketball, and gymnastics.
Robert was preceded in death by daughter Denise (Dee Dee) Marrone; infant granddaughter Kylianne Elizabeth Helm; parents; brothers Charles (Bud) Helm, Lloyd Helm, and Michael (Mickey) Helm.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years Bernice Helm of South Haven; children Robert Helm II of South Haven, Cassie Janisch (and Todd Roy) of Annandale, Cyndi (and Brian) Gardner of Sartell, Chantel (and Joe) Carter of Silver Bay, Candi Helm (and Shawn Huikko) of Annandale, 12 grandchildren Kilea, Stephanie, Derek, Sabrina, Skylar, Janai, Blayne, Duncan, Emily, Erica, Michael, and Mitchell; and six great-grandchildren.
