William Roth died Monday, July 8, 2013, at his home on Lake John (near Annandale). He was 84.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 12, 2013, at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Annandale with Fr. Steven Hoffman officiating. Interment will be at St. Ignatius Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 .m. Thursday and 9:30-10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Ignatius Catholic church. There will be a prayer service at 6:45 p.m. Thursday.
William P. Roth was born March 4, 1929, in Newton, Iowa, to Emil and Anna (Manke) Roth. Bill was a self-made man who loved his family. At an early age, he left home to work on area farms. Later he worked at a cheese factory and then sold, delivered, and installed appliances including DeLaval milking machines. He married Jeanne McManimon July 18, 1949, in Rushford; she preceded him in death Sept. 11, 2012. From 1957-2007, Bill owned and operated Roth Insurance Agency in Annandale.
Bill was a member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church and the Annandale Chamber of Commerce. He was a charter member and past president of the Annandale Lions Club, and he was a member and past president of the Minnesota Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers. He enjoyed golf, baseball, gardening, traveling, joke-telling, and he cherished time spent with his family.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife Jeanne, son David, and brothers Hannes and Emil.
He is survived by his five children: Kathy (and Mike) Jasper of Grand Rapids, Greg (and Audrey) Roth of Annandale, Suzanne (and Pat) McArdle of Forest Lake, Gretchen (and John) Kittok of Annandale, and Jennifer Roth of Annandale; 19 grandchildren: Molly Jasper (and Aran Dahl), Matt (and Katie) Jasper, Anna Roth, Heather (and Tim) Jurek, Tami (and Chris) Denny, Zach Roth, David, Danny and Meghan Roth, Katie and Michael McArdle, Bridget (and Bill) Guck, Brennan, Peter and Anne Kittok, Meghan, Molly, Hannah and Ryan Ashwill; four great-grandchildren: Jasper Dahl, Allyson, Brady and William Jurek; and sisters: Sr. Frieda Roth of the Sisters of the Holy Cross, Margaret Tewari of Des Plaines, Ill., Rosie Topoluk of Minneapolis, and Katherine Hoaglund of Minneapolis.
Urn bearer will be Greg Roth, and music for the service will be provided by the St. Ignatius Music Ministry. Arrangements were entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care of Annandale. Memorials are preferred to the Sisters of the Holy Cross.
