Daniel Wicker of Pearl Lake (Marty) died Monday, Aug. 5, 2013, at the VA Nursing Home. He was 84.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 9, at Holy Cross Church in Marty with Father Mark Ostendorf officiating. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m.at Holy Cross Church Thursday, Aug. 8, with parish prayers at 4 p.m. followed by a rosary with the Knights of Columbus. Visitation will continue from 9-10:30 a.m. Friday morning at the church. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery following the service.
Daniel J. Wicker was born Nov. 24, 1928, to John and Hattie (Dullinger) Wicker on the family farm where his dad was also born. He graduated from Kimball High School in 1946. He farmed with his family until he was drafted into the service. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. When he returned home, Daniel resumed farming. Daniel married Rita Reller June 2, 1958, and together they raised six children. After retiring from farming, Daniel became a “parts runner” for his son, John. Daniel enjoyed taking care of his orchard and going out for coffee. He also enjoyed his hunting and fishing trips. He was especially proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Daniel was preceded in death by his parents; brother Eldred; sister Patricia; and brother-in-law Al Voit.
He is survived by his wife Rita; children Thomas (and Kristine) of Crosby, Sharon (and Dave) Scheeler of Merrifield, Jeanne (and Tom) Pramann of Castlewood, S.D., Judy (and Charlie) Mueller of Marty, Brenda (and Jeff) Reinhardt of Mahtomedi, John (and Mary) of Marty; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; siblings Roger Wicker, Arlene Dockendorf of St. Cloud, Doris Goenner of Clear Lake, and sister-in-law Doris Wicker.
Arrangements are with the Wenner Funeral Home in Cold Spring.
