Dorothymae Eckhardt, 84

Dorothymae Eckhardt died peacefully, surrounded by her family, Friday, Sept. 7, 2012, in Scottsdale, Ariz. She was 84.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, at Ascension Lutheran Church in Paradise Valley, Ariz. Another memorial for Dorothy's Minnesota family and friends will be held in St. Paul, Minn., at a later date.

Dorothy was born Nov. 4, 1927, in Mankato, Minn., to William M. and Frances (Leslie) Grimes. She attended a one-room schoolhouse as a child, was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Johnson, Minn., and graduated from high school in Graceville, Minn. She earned a Bachelor's Degree from Minnesota State University Moorhead in 1948. She married Robert Dodds Aug. 21, 1948. Dorothy taught elementary school in Minneapolis, and then moved to Red Lake Falls, Minn., where she was a homemaker and partner in Dodds Drug, Inc. She returned to MSUM to finish her Master's Degree in 1979. She went on to teach Sales and Marketing at Thief River Falls Technical College and Dakota County Technical College. She married William H. Eckhardt June 5, 1992. The couple moved to Scottsdale later that year.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, brother William L. "Bill" Grimes, and sister-in-law Cheryl Eckhardt.

She is survived by her husband William; daughter Lori (and Kurt) Rippentrop of Kimball, son Mike (and Jana) Dodds, and daughter-in-law Jolene (and Paul) Durand; grandchildren Jessie (and Kyle) Gwash, Stacy (and Jaime Anderson) Rippentrop, Mara Rippentrop, Ali (and Adam Gangl) Rippentrop, Jamie (and Nickolay) Ryabov, Derek Juhl, Kyle Hurst, Tyler Hurst and Margaret Durand; and nine great-grandchildren: Brody and Tyler Schmidt, Aiden Gwash, Savannah Hoskins, Chloe Anderson, Mason Rippentrop, Emily Gangl, Andrey and Amalia Ryabov.

Arrangements were by Green Acres Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Ascension Lutheran Church or Children's Home Society and Family Services.
