Norbert Donnay of Watkins died Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014, at the Hilltop Health Care Center in Watkins. He was 81.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 27, at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Kimball. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Fr. Thomas Olson will officiate. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, and from 9-10 a.m. Monday, at Ertl Funeral Home in Watkins. Parish prayers will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home followed by Watkins Legion Post #453 prayers at 6 p.m.
Norbert M. Donnay was born March 28, 1932, in Watkins to Henry and Susie (Mies) Donnay. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was united in Marriage Aug. 17, 1957, to Elaine Witzman in Cold Spring. Norbert farmed near Watkins all of his life. He was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church in Kimball, and the Catholic Order of Foresters. He also was a member of the Watkins American Legion Post #453.
Norbert was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son; son-in-law Terry Schmid; and sisters Louise VanNurden, Lorraine Konz, Mildred Konz, and Margie Hesse.
He is survived by his wife Elaine Donnay of Watkins; their children Cindy Schmid of Luck, Wisc., Tom (and Karen) Donnay of Watkins, Tim (and Gertrud) Donnay of Belgrade, Serbia, Dale (and Joan) Donnay of Sauk Centre, Dan (and Laurie) Donnay of Salt Lake City, Utah; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; brother Walter (and Betty) Donnay of Watkins; and sisters Mary Ann Nething of Darwin, and Dorothy Anderson of Tucson, Ariz.
The family would like to thank the Hilltop Health Care Center and St. Croix Hospice for their excellent care of Norbert. A special "thank you" to Judy Vossen for her extra care.
