James Theis, 58


James Theis of rural Watkins died Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at the St. Cloud Hospital. He was 58.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 14, at the Church of St. Philip in Litchfield. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, April 13, at the church with a parish prayer service at 8 p.m. Interment will be in the St. Gertrude Catholic Cemetery.


James Lyle Theis was born March 6, 1956, in Litchfield to William and Josephine (Mies) Theis. He grew up in rural Watkins and attended school in Eden Valley. He graduated from Eden Valley High School in 1974. He continued his education for a year at Willmar Vo-Tech. Jim worked at Custom Products for several years before working for Herberger’s Distribution in St. Cloud and Mills in Eden Valley. Nov. 10, 1990, he was united in marriage to Cindy Pollock at St. Gertrude’s Catholic Church in Forest City. In 1994, he and Cindy started C & J Monogramming. They purchased the Partner’s Hardware Hank Store in
W-James-Theis-cropturnLitchfield in 1998 and operated it together. Jim was a member of St. Gertrude’s Catholic Church, the Eden Valley Sportsman Club, Forest City Threshers, Stearns County Pioneer Club, Meeker County Trail Association, and the Darwin Drifters. Jim was a Firearms and Snowmobile Safety Instructor. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and gardening.

James was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Marvin and Joseph; and sister Sylvia Hagedorn.

He is survived by his wife Cindy Theis of Watkins; brother Maynard (and Margie) Theis of Watkins; sisters Susan Abel of Williamsport, Ind., and Dorothy (and Gene) Haag of rural Kingston.
