Cyril Massmann of Luxemburg died Friday, May 2, 2014, at Quiet Oaks Hospice House in St. Augusta. He was 84.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 5, at St. Wendelin’s Catholic Church in Luxemburg with Reverend Mark Ostendorf officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the parish cemetery. Family and friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, May 4, and after 10 a.m. Monday at Mary Hall in Luxemburg. Parish prayers will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at Mary Hall.
Cyril F. Massmann was born March 18, 1930, in Rockville, Minn., to Henry and Mary (Eickhoff) Massmann. He honorably served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955. He married Geraldine F. Biever Oct. 27, 1956 in Lake Benton. He was a successful farmer until retirement. Cyril was a member of St. Wendelin’s Parish where he served as one of the first trustees. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Granite Post #428, and their rifle squad, and the St. Augusta American Legion Post #621.
He was a foster parent to many children in Stearns County.
Cyril was preceded in death by his wife Geraldine in 2008; daughter-in-law Bea Schmidtbauer; brothers Eugene, Ed, and Ralph; infant sister Alveria; and sister Odelia Zwilling.
He is survived by his children Mike Schmidtbauer, Gloria (and Randy) Kremers, Leon (and Karen) Schlangen, Corinne (and Cliff) Hilsgen, David (and Lori) Schlangen, and Mary (and Troy) Olson; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brothers Joe, Felix, and Daniel (and
Margie): and sisters Marie (and Richard) Dingmann, and Cathy Buchheit.
