Jack's Oil Distributing, Inc. presents grant

Jack's Oil Distributing, Inc presents BP Fueling Communities Grant of $3,500 to ISD 463's 21st Century Community Learning

Jack's Oil Distributing, Inc, a BP Branded Marketer and petroleum distributor in Eden Valley, presented a BP Fueling Communities grant donation of $3,500 to 21st Century Community Learning Centers.

John & Karen Derichs, Jack's Oil owners, and their sons Aaron and Nathen, all Eden Valley-Watkins alumni, have always been proud supporters of the local schools. Jack's Oil was able to reinforce their commitment to the local community through the BP Fueling Communities grant program. The BP Fueling Communities program provides grants to local organizations that are nominated by BP's Branded Marketers to support the communities in which they do business. Fueling Communities gives back to local organizations that support health, education, youth, food and housing to spread charity and goodwill.

21st Century Community Learning Centers is a federally funded program that provides out-of-school enrichment activities to help students meet state and local standards. Students are offered a variety of learning opportunities that enrich and compliment the regular curriculum. Being part of the 21st Century program helps students feel more connected to teachers, assistants, peers, community, and the world. Field trips are often part of the experience, especially in the summer. EV-W students meet several times a week after school, and throughout the summer.

The $3,500 BP grant that was received from Jack's Oil Distributing Inc. was used in several ways. Part of the money went to purchase robots which students were challenged to put together during a summer class offered through Mad Scientists. Without the grant, students would not have been able to participate in the hands-on learning activity. Another way the money was used was to purchase supplies that will be used for art, science, math, reading, and team-building activities. The grant was very helpful in getting a lot of the "extras" that make the 21st Century program so successful.
