Two EV-W students recently attended the 84th National FFA convention in Indianapolis, Ind., Tuesday-Saturday, Oct. 23-27.
FFA president Anne Gathje and her younger brother James traveled to Indianapolis along with advisor Tracy Huhn. While there, the three participated in various sessions on leadership and FFA workshops. They also attended a career fair and Agriculture Expo, toured the Indianapolis Speedway, and were in the stands for the World's Toughest Rodeo.
The biggest thrill for the two siblings, however, was seeing their older brother Joe Gathje, a sophomore at South Dakota State University and 2011 graduate of EV-W, receive his American FFA Degree on Saturday, Oct. 27.
Joe was one of 77 FFA members from Minnesota, and 3,500 in the nation to receive the award this year. This represents fewer than
1 percent of all FFA members earn this degree.
"We believe that the last EV-W American Degree recipients were John Schmitz, a 1984 EV-W graduate and 1983 graduate Randy Lipinski," EV-W FFA advisor Tracy Huhn said. "This is a big deal."
