Meth lab found; someone's stealing boat fuel tanks; local crime blotters

Portable meth lab found

Tuesday Oct. 23, at 11:43 a.m., the Meeker County Sheriff's Office took a report of a suspicious package located in a culvert along County Road 11, just east of Grove City. A deputy responded and discovered a duffel bag containing items consistent with that of a portable meth lab. The duffel bag appears to have been at this location for many months. Because of the state and age of the various materials and chemicals involved with this discovery, the Minnesota Duty Officer with the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension was contacted as well as a Certified Clean up Company to properly dispose of this meth lab and waste.

Thefts of boat fuel tanks

Over the past several weeks, the Meeker County Sheriff's Office has received multiple theft reports from various boat owners throughout Meeker County. These boat owners are reporting that their fuel tanks have been stolen from their boat. In most cases, the fuel line has been cut and the entire fuel tank with gasoline has been taken. Most of the thefts have occurred when the boat is parked in the driveway or on the property of the owner. (Not in the lake or on the lift) It is believed these thefts are occurring during the early morning hours. There is some delayed reporting, as often the boat has been parked or otherwise out of the lake and the owner is not aware of the fuel tank theft until the next time the boat is needed, or moved. The Meeker County Sheriff's Office is working with the Wright County Sheriff's Office who has been experiencing the same type of thefts.

The Meeker County Sheriff's Office has taken theft reports from Dassel, Watkins, and the Grove City area relative to these thefts. Residents are reminded to think of security when storing your boats and other valuable property. If you are storing items outside, closer to your residence is better, under a lighted area is best, and asking your neighbors to help keep an eye out for suspicious activity are all helpful in deterring criminal activity. Finally, call in any suspicious activity to the Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff Norlin also wishes to remind everyone using 911 that reporting suspicious activity in progress is an appropriate use of the 911 system. Sheriff Norlin also added if anyone has information concerning these thefts, that they can remain anonymous by calling the Sheriff's Office Confidential Tip Line at (320) 693-5411, or Crime Stoppers of MN 24/7 at (800) 222-TIPS (8744). You may also now text your tips to Crime Stoppers by Texting "TIP674 plus your message" to CRIMES (274637).
