Eden Valley-Watkins Schools
The secondary construction project continues and we'll soon have the facility enclosed and heated. We are still waiting for delivery dates on the aluminum entrances and windows for the office and lobby. We also have a small group of individuals that will be traveling to Princeton to review samples of wood floors and various installation methods and products. The electrical and mechanical contractors will be back in the existing building on Thursday and Friday to connect with the original systems. You may have even noticed the excavation and site work taking place on the South parking lot.
Please stop in for a visit with your questions and comments, and be sure to exercise caution when you're in the proximity of the construction zone.
October is Principal Recognition Month:
Governor Dayton has designated October as Principal Recognition Month. Therefore, I'd like to recognize our Secondary Principal, Bruce Kiehn and Elementary Principal, Rob Pederson. Throughout my short duration with the EV-W School District, I have certainly appreciated the support and direction from these wonderful school leaders. Both of these men have demonstrated exceptional organization and communication skills, organizational oversight of their buildings and staff, as well as encouragement and flexibility working with numerous staff and diverse needs. Most importantly, I appreciate these men for the individual empathy, understanding, and personal attention given to the students in their respective buildings.
I would encourage you to take a moment and recognize the principals in the EV-W School District for the great work that they do on behalf of children.
George Lemke, son of Ann & Todd Lemke, Maggie Schmaltz, daughter of Colin and Bonnie Schmaltz and Morgan Steffens, daughter of Diane & Brian Harff have been selected to perform in the American Choral Directors Association 7 & 8 Honor Choir. These fine 7th-grade singers have been chosen from hundreds of auditions submitted by their vocal directors from across the state of Minnesota. George, Maggie and Morgan will be performing at the ACDA Fall Convention on Nov. 16, in Mahtomedi. Congratulations to these wonderful musicians!

Senior of the Week:
The EV-W School District would like to recognize Erica McCann, daughter of John and Sharon. Erica is an active member of the senior class, volleyball team, and also runs track for the Eagles. Additionally, she manages the concession stand for the Student Council and is Secretary of the FFA. Outside of school, Erica is a member of the National Guard and completed her basic training this past summer. Congratulations!
