Arrest in Eden Valley

Friday, Oct. 12, at 6:05 a.m. the Meeker County Sheriff's Office responded to an address in Eden Valley to check on a person who had a Meeker County Warrant. When officers arrived, Nicholas Winnings, age 27, of Litchfield, fled on foot from the deputies, but was arrested a short distance away and was taken to Meeker County Jail with additional charges pending.

Machinery fire in Greenleaf Tship

At 3:32 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 16, the Meeker County Sheriff's Office received a call reporting a fire one-half mile west of Minnesota Highway 22 on 180th Avenue, Greenleaf Township. When the deputy arrived, he found that a Case combine with stalk-chopping corn head, Caterpillar tractor, and a grain cart owned by Douglas Johnson, age 52, of Litchfield, were engulfed in flames. The Litchfield Fire Department extinguished the flames before it reached the unharvested corn. The combine, corn head, and tractor were a total loss. The equipment lost is valued at over $600,000.

Personal injury accident

Sunday, Oct. 14, at 7:43 a.m. the Meeker County Sheriff's Office, Watkins Fire Department, Watkins Ambulance, Gold Cross Ambulance, and Eden Valley Fire and Rescue responded to the intersection of 650th Avenue and 365th Street, Forest Prairie Township, for a single-vehicle personal injury accident. Allen Geislinger, 40 years old, from rural Watkins, was driving a 1997 Mercury Cougar, drove off the roadway and into the ditch striking a tree. He required mechanical extrication from the vehicle. Mr. Geislinger was taken by Watkins ambulance with Gold Cross paramedic assistance to St. Cloud hospital for evaluation.

This crash is currently under investigation by the Meeker County Sheriff's Office.

Fire started by fireworks

Friday, Oct. 12, at 9:45 p.m., the Meeker County Sheriff's Office received a call from John McDaniel,

age 52, of Mound, that there were cattails on fire near the address of 33159 County State Aid Highway 34, of Harvey Township. Reporting party told the Meeker County Sheriff's Deputy that the fire was caused by fireworks being shot off into the cattails.

An estimated 250 acres of slough, grass and wooded area was destroyed by the fire. Responding to the fire were Litchfield Fire Department, Grove City Fire Department, Watkins Fire Department, Eden Valley Fire Department, Dassel Fire Department, Eden Valley Police Department and U.S. Fish and Wildlife. Charges are pending further investigation by the Meeker County Sheriff's Office.

There were a total of 44 calls during the month of September. (The Meeker County Sheriff's Office provides police services to the City of Watkins.) These calls included: 11 traffic stops (with 7 citations), 5 suspicions persons or vehicles, 3 animal complaints, 3 medical calls, 3 thefts, 2 noise complaints, and one each of 9-1-1 hangup, alarm, agency assist, public assist, welfare check, criminal damage to property, harassment/stalking, investigate drunk driver, parking violation, and trespass.

Oct. 9, James Joseph Koopman, 47 of Dassel, was arrested in Maple Lake for violation of an order for protection.

Oct. 9, Mark Reinhold Lies, 27 of Annandale, was arrested in Stearns County on a Wright County warrant for fifth-degree controlled substance violation.

Oct. 12, Ethan Gunnar Kangas, 18 of Watkins, was arrested in French Lake Township on a Wright County warrant for probation violation.

Oct. 12, Sara Jo Ann Gehrke, 18 of Cokato, was arrested in Buffalo on a Wright County warrant for theft.

Oct. 12, Kristin Angela Rhoden, 34 of Rockford, was arrested in Rockford on the charges of second-degree assault, domestic assault, and theft.

Oct. 12, Gabrielle Lee Nistler, 22 of South Haven, was arrested in South Haven on the charge of theft.

Oct. 12, Lucius Richard Brackee, 23 of South Haven, was arrested in South Haven on the charge of aiding and abetting theft.

Oct. 13, Cody Todd Welte, 19 of Cokato, was arrested in Cokato Township on an Itasca County warrant for probation violation.

Oct. 14, David Charles McNertney, 50 of Edina, was arrested in Annandale on the charge of third-degree DWI.

Oct. 14, Lee Thomas Sorensen, 32 of Minneapolis, was arrested in Annandale on a Hennepin County warrant for third-degree DWI.

There were 2 property-damage accidents, 1 personal-injury accident,

1 hit-and-run accident, and 4 car-deer accidents.

There were 6 arrests for DWI,

14 underage-consumption arrests, and 33 tickets for miscellaneous traffic violations issued this week.

Sunday, October 14

4:37 a.m. the Sheriff's Office dispatched Eden Valley Rescue and Watkins Ambulance, per the request of the Stearns County Sheriff Office, for a possible medical at a residence on Hyneman Avenue East, Eden Valley. Both the rescue and ambulance were canceled prior to arrival.

7:42 a.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to, dispatched Watkins Ambulance and Watkins Fire/Rescue for a personal injury accident at the intersection of 365th Street and 650th Avenue in Forest Prairie Township. A short time later, Eden Valley Rescue and Gold Cross Ambulance were dispatched for mutual aid. One individual was transported to the St. Cloud Hospital.

2:05 p.m. the Sheriff's Office took a report of a theft from a residence on Western Avenue North, Watkins.

8:47 p.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to a report of an unwanted person at a residence in the Watkins Trailer Court, Watkins. The deputies mediated the dispute and there were no further issues.

Saturday, October 13

3:04 p.m. the Sheriff's Office took a report of a burglary from a residence on MN Highway 22, Manannah Township.

6:01 p.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to a report of suspicious activity near the Riverside Store, 318th Street, Forest City. The deputy checked the area and found all to be okay.

7:05 p.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to a report of suspicious activity near the playground on 351st Street, City of Manannah. The deputy made contact with the complainant who advised kids were shooting pop cans with a BB gun; the parent of the juveniles was advised of the complaint.

9:58 p.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to and dispatched Eden Valley Rescue and Watkins Ambulance for a medical at the Eden Valley Fire Hall, Eden Valley. One individual was transported to St. Cloud Hospital.

11:38 p.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a noise complaint at the Riverside Store, 318th Street, Forest City. The deputy made contact with the owner who was advised of the complaint.

Friday, October 12

6:06 a.m. the Sheriff's Office received an anonymous tip that an individual with a warrant was at an address on Meeker Avenue West, Eden Valley. Upon arrival deputies arrested, Nicholas Wayne Wining, age 27, Litchfield, on a Meeker County Warrant for failing to comply with pre-trail conditions of release.

11:35 a.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a scam attempt at an address on 617th Avenue, Manannah Township. The deputy advised them of their options.

7:18 p.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to a civil matter at a residence on 362nd Street, North Kingston Township. The deputy spoke with both parties and there were no further issues.

9:45 p.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to and dispatched the following fire departments: Litchfield, Eden Valley, Watkins, Grove City and Dassel for a report of a slough fire near a residence on County State Aid Highway 34, Harvey Township. Deputies assisted with traffic control and filed a report. Also assisting was the US Fish and Wildlife with fire equipment as well as the Eden Valley Police Department who assisted with traffic control.

10:38 p.m. the Sheriff's Office dispatched Eden Valley Rescue and Watkins Ambulance for a medical at a residence on Douglas Drive, Eden Valley. One individual was transported to

St. Cloud Hospital.

Thursday, October 11

12:21 a.m. the Sheriff's Office dispatched Eden Valley Rescue and Watkins Ambulance to a medical at a residence on Coleman Avenue East, Eden Valley. There was no transport.

8:08 a.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to a dog complaint at a residence on 512th Avenue, Union Grove Township. One female black lab with a green collar and choke chain was transported to the Meeker County pound.

8:53 a.m. the Sheriff's Office dispatched Eden Valley Rescue and Gold Cross Ambulance to a medical at a residence on 340th Street, Manannah Township. One individual was transported to Meeker Memorial Hospital.

11:17 a.m. the Sheriff's Office received a civil complaint at an address on Meeker Avenue East, Eden Valley. The deputy spoke to the individual and advised them of their options.

2:21 p.m. the Sheriff's Office took a report of threats at a residence on Meeker Avenue East, Eden Valley.

5:15 p.m. a Sheriff's Deputy came across an abandoned vehicle on MN Highway 55, Forest Prairie Township. The vehicle was off the roadway and not a hazard.

11:52 p.m. the Sheriff's Office conducted a traffic stop in the area of 350th Street and 675th Avenue, Forest Prairie Township. After investigation, deputies arrested Ethan Gunnar Kangas, age 18, of Watkins, on a Wright County warrant for probation violation.

Wednesday, October 10

6:47 a.m. the Sheriff's Office took a report of juvenile trouble at a residence on 365th Street, Forest Prairie Township.

11:36 a.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to a report of threats at a residence in the Watkins Trailer Park, Watkins.

Tuesday, October 9

10:38 a.m. the Sheriff's Office dispatched Watkins Ambulance for a medical in Stearns County at the

St. Anne's Church on Hazel Avenue East in Kimball. One individual was transported to St. Cloud Hospital.

2:18 p.m. the Sheriff's Office received a report of threats at a residence in the Watkins Trailer Park.

3:59 p.m. the Sheriff's Office arrested Nathan Lee Johanneck, age 24, of Kimball, for Driving after Cancelation.

4:59 p.m. the Sheriff's Office took a report of a violation of an order for protection at a residence on 4th Street North, Watkins.

2:46 p.m. the Sheriff's Office took a report on a civil matter at a property on 715th Avenue, Kingston Township.
