Kimball varsity volleyball goes 1-1 during week of Oct. 8-12
Cubs v Upsala Oct. 9
It was a challenging week for the Kimball varsity volleyball team. Tuesday, Oct. 9, the Cubs traveled to Upsala and were defeated 3-1. It took the Cubs the first two sets to find a rhythm, as they struggled to serve consistently and eliminate unforced errors. They lost both 20-25. Set three proved to show the talents of the Cubs as they pushed hard to win 25-15. Missed serves and poor passing proved critical as the Cubs could not take game four, and lost 22-25. Statistical highlights included Breane Meierhofer with four ace serves, 13 kills, three block assists, and eight digs. Laura Frank had 13 kills and five digs.

Thursday, Oct. 11, the Lady Cubs faced off against Eden Valley-Watkins for Homecoming. Seniors Tiffany Kuechle, Laura Frank, Breane Meierhofer, Kaylee Petty, and Kenadi Mackereth were also recognized for their contributions to Kimball Volleyball. The Cubs started slowly, with some nervous jitters; they struggled to pass and play defense. The Cubs lost the first set 14-25. However, with some inspiring words from the captains, players refocused and worked hard to execute their offense. With improved passing and all-around aggressive play, the Cubs took the second and third set from the Eagles with scores of 25-12 and 25-23. The Cubs lost momentum and confidence in the fourth set. They lost 19-25. For the first time this year, the Cubs went to game five. They didn't want to lose on their Homecoming. Game five was a battle, as both teams went back and forth with the score. With a couple of extra Eagle unforced errors, the Cubs were able to capitalize and take the set and match with a final score of 15-11. For the night, Breane Meierhofer had 18 kills and four digs. Tiffany Kuechle had 29 set assists, Hollie Donnay had seven kills and four total blocks, Laura Frank had four ace serves and 12 kills, and Kaylee Petty had five total blocks.
With one conference match to go, the Cubs are 3-3 in the conference. The Cubs are 12-14.
