In fifth grade, the students learn many new things while continuing to build on what they've already learned. We have a new science curriculum that consists of soil, rocks, and landforms; motion, force, and models; and environments. In social studies, they learn about U.S. history with Mrs. Herrington. They also learn new math concepts, how to become better readers and writers, how to keep their bodies healthy, and continue to develop their study and social skills.
The field trip students most look forward to is our Iron Range trip on May 9 and 10. They learn about the history of iron mining in Minnesota.
We also go to St,. Cloud State University. The students participate in science/engineering experiments, see a show at the planetarium, and tour the campus.
We are currently selling meat packages or gift cards from Knaus Sausage House. The sale ends Oct. 26. We will also have a fish fry with sixth grade Jan. 4, 2013.
Our field trips, we have D.A.R.E. with Deputy Gina Feldewerd. She is teaching the students how to recognize and resist the peer pressure to experiment with tobacco, alcohol, and other drugs.
We also go to Hilltop Care Center in Watkins where the students develop relationships and participate in activities with the residents.
