Education Finance Bills:
The respective education finance bills moved this week through the Finance, Ways and Means and Tax Committees. Along the way, the House bill was amended to remove the Labor Day start date provision. This provision would have allowed schools to start before Labor Day, but could not meet on the Thursday and Friday before Labor Day.
The Senate bill was amended in several ways. First of all, when the bill was passed out of the Senate Education Finance committee it appropriated more money than was allowed in the committee budget target. As a result, the bill was amended in the Senate Finance Committee to ensure it is within the budget target (by removing an increase in the compensatory pilot projects). The bill was also amended to delay implementation of the teacher evaluation system until the 2015-2016 school year.
The full House and Senate are expected to take up their Education Finance bills some time mid-week.
We’d like you to take part in the Eden Valley – Watkins School District’s Strategic Planning process. Strategic planning is an organization’s process of defining its strategy, or direction, and making decisions on allocating its resources.
We have scheduled three community meetings to take place on May 15, 22, and 29, from 5:30–
7 p.m. in the Elementary Cafeteria to solicit your feedback and values as we develop our strategic plan. We would be happy to have you join us for refreshments and sandwiches as we shape the future for our school district. Please RSVP to Marsha Davidson in the District Office at (320) 453-2900, ext. 1142, if you would like to be involved.
Thanks to our academic counselor, secondary administration, and the dedicated EV-W staff for their commitment to the EV-W concurrent enrollment programs. The Class of 2013 will graduate with 668 college credits. Of the 59 graduates in the class, 38 will have some level of college credit that will transfer into post-secondary education when they graduate.
Snow Make-Up Day:
Due to inclement weather conditions, school was canceled on Thursday, April 11. This student contact day will be made up on Friday, May 31. Please make note of this schedule change in your home calendars. Enjoy the spring weather.
-May 31 is the end of 4th quarter and last student instruction day.
-June 3 is individual teacher work time and check-out for staff.
Senior of the Week:
The EV-W School District would like to recognize Chelsey Bischof, daughter of Bob. Chelsey is actively participating in the college/honors classes as she prepares for post-secondary options. She contributes to her community by serving the Big Brothers – Big Sisters program as a role model, and also works as a CNA at a nursing home. The EV-W administration, faculty and staff are extremely proud of your accomplishments. Congratulations!
