Sept. 27 Update

Government shutdown

As you know, there is potential for a U.S. Government shutdown to take place on Oct. 1, 2013, and appropriations for the federal budget will expire. With a few days remaining until that deadline, we’ll just have to remain hopeful that Congress and the president will resolve their differences and avoid the shutdown. If a compromise does not occur and a federal shutdown becomes reality, we could be faced with some reimbursement difficulties from the Minnesota Department of Education. Simply stated, the electronic transfer of federal funds to MDE and schools could be delayed until a resolution is passed by Congress and signed by the president.

We’ve often talked with law makers about our educational needs and at times legislation that is well intended can have unintended consequences that makes our jobs in schools more challenging. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for a quick resolution.

Support staff recognition

It was a privilege to attend the third Annual Support Staff Recognition Banquet sponsored by Resource Training and Solutions Wednesday, Sept. 25. Once again, I’d like to commend the EV-W recipients Judy Blonigen, Adam Teicher, and Lori Unterberger for their representation of quality educational support and assistance in the EV-W School District.  This annual banquet also provides us with the opportunity to recognize all of our bus drivers, custodians and buildings/grounds, cooks, educational and media/technology support staff, and clerical support for their commitment and dedicated service to the students and staff of EV-W. Thank you!

Senior of the week

The EV-W School District would like to recognize Jordyn Geislinger, daughter of Bruce and Darla. Jordyn is a well-rounded student/athlete and demonstrates many quality characteristics in the classroom, on the court, and also while serving as president of Aquila. She remains engaged with her numerous college-level classes and busy with a work load at an area nursing home. Jordyn considers her mom a great role-model for the optimism and determination displayed while battling illness. Congratulations!
