Students of Excellence recognized
The 27th Annual Students of Excellence Banquet and Recognition Ceremony was held Wednesday, April 30, at the River’s Edge Convention Center in St. Cloud with close to 600 attending the event. The evening was dedicated to honoring the top 150 high school seniors from 38 area high schools located in Region 7. The honorees were nominated by their school and received a plaque recognizing their accomplishment and a certificate from Governor Dayton.
The Eden Valley-Watkins School District was represented by Teresa Bautch, Brittany Hesse, Erin Salo, Jamie Scherer, and Rachel Stommes.
I would like to commend our Student of Excellence award winners on this incredible achievement. They have demonstrated a passion for learning and dedication to their future successes. I’m hopeful that this recognition will encourage our EV-W honorees to strive for excellence and always do their best. I’m confident they will achieve their dreams.
Community Eligibility Provision
Starting in the 2014-15 school year, schools with a high percentage of students from low-income households have the opportunity to provide free school lunches and breakfasts to all students under the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Community Eligibility Provision (CEP). To participate, schools must meet a minimum level of 40 percent students identified to receive free meals through direct certification.
At this point, Watkins Elementary has been identified as near-eligible for participation in this new program. We’ll be discussing the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s financial reimbursements to the district and the opportunity of providing free breakfast and lunch to all Watkins students at the next board meeting.
Senior of the Week
The EVW School District would like to recognize Christina Salzl, daughter of Gary and Susan. Christina is one of our top academic performers and has had an active senior year serving as volleyball captain, NHS president and a peer tutor. Her plans for the fall include attendance at St. Cloud Technical College to study Sonography and become an Ultrasound Technician. The EV-W administration, faculty and staff are extremely proud of your accomplishments. Congratulations!
