EV-W-K cross country runners start season at Maple Lake

It was a pretty warm day for a run on Friday, Aug. 30, but that’s just what the Eden Valley-Watkins/Kimball cross country girls’ and boys’ teams did. Arriving at Maple Lake’s Nye Park early enough for a 9 a.m. start, the EV-W/K girls’ squad finished eighth in the 10-team invitational, and the boys’ team was deemed incomplete. Individual results: Bret W-IMG 4006Mattice, 20.09; Tyler Neu, 21.40. Coach Holly Hansen is pleased with the start. “Almost all my athletes who ran this course last year improved their meet time this year. They are off to a great start. I knew Emily Donnay would be a great addition to our team, but it was really fun to see her get in there and do a fantastic first Varsity race! Kudos to all!” Hosts Maple Lake Irish captured first place. The lady EV-W/K were led by junior Emily Donnay, finishing second overall with a blistering time of 17:00. Teammates results:  Grace Kopitzke, junior, 28th place, 19:19; Brooke Winter, junior, 46th place, 20:19; Stephanea Roeser, junior, 50th place, 21:22; Maria Roeser, junior, 52nd place, 21:24; Madison Libbesmeier, sophomore, 60th place, 22:53.

Are you ready for some FOOTBALL?

 

It’s time for the KIMBALL CUBS Youth Football!

• Touch Football Program for students entering grades 1-2.

When: Saturday, Sept 7, 14, 21 & 28, from 9-10 a.m.

Where: Kimball Area High School Football Field

Cost: $20

• 5th & 6th Grade Tackle Football. Sign up, equipment handout and first practice is Aug, 13, at 6 p.m. at the Kimball Area High School.

We will also be handing out equipment on Aug. 15.

When: Tuesdays and Thursdays starting on Aug. 13, from 6-7:30 p.m.

Where: Kimball Area High School Football Field

Cost: $50

• 3rd & 4th Grade Tackle Football. Sign up and equipment handout is Aug. 27, at 6:30 p.m. at the Kimball Area High School.

When: Tuesdays and Thursdays starting on Sept. 3, from 6-7:30 p.m.

Where: Kimball High School Football Field

Cost: $50

All participants will learn skills such as passing, catching, ball handling, blocking, kicking and much more.

Marty Mudcats compete at Nationals

Marty Mudcats competed in the NAFA 14U Fastpitch National Tournament held in Eden Prairie, Minn. There were 68 teams competing in the tournament. The team W-130725mudcats-nationals-546participated in three pool-play games to arrange which division to play in, to compete in the double-elimination tournament. This was to determine the championship in the Gold, Silver, and Bronze Division.

The Mudcats went 2-1 in pool play. They beat Hastings Gold 8-7, lost to Champlin Park Rebels 10-1, and won over Maple River 5-0. With the top 20 teams advancing to the Gold Division, the Mudcats found themselves heading to the Gold. The tie breakers were decided on runs allowed and the Mudcats gave up only 17 runs in three games. The Mudcats played their hardest in all the games, and carried the ethical portion of competition with them through the whole tournament.

High school athletics meetings in August

Kimball

Monday, Aug. 5, 6:30 p.m., mandatory meeting for parents of any student in grade 7-12 who plans to participate in activities at Kimball Area High School during the 2013-14 school year. There will be a general meeting for all parents, followed by separate meetings for each sport:

• Monday, Aug. 12: at 4 p.m. Football grades 9-12

• Monday, Aug. 12: at 8 a.m. Volleyball grades 9-12

• Monday, Aug. 12: at 8 a.m. Cross country grades 7-12

• Monday, Aug. 26: at 3 p,m, JH Football  grades 7 and 8

• Tuesday, Aug. 27: at 9 a.m. JH volleyball grades 7 and 8

Cubs’ Clothing may be ordered from now through Aug. 9 (for delivery Aug. 26). The next order will be Aug. 12-30 for delivery Sept. 16.

Eden Valley-Watkins

There will be a sports meeting for all parents of athletes in grades 7-12 at Eden Valley-Watkins High School at 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 12, in the new high school gymnasium.

Mudcats earn fifth place at State

The Marty Mudcats 14U Softball team entered the State Tournament held in Rosemount on July 20-21. The tournament was set up as a double elimination tournament with 20 total teams.

The Mudcats played Chanhassen Blizzard in the first round of the tournament. The Mudcats took an inning to get settled in their surroundings and scored six runs in the second inning and continued with two runs in the fourth and fifth inning. The defense and pitching held the Blizzard to two runs and led the Mudcats to the first victory of the tournament by a score of 10-2. Madi Libbesmeier earned the win on the mound and went 3-3 with a double, triple, two RBI’s and a run scored and Lauren Libbesmeier went 3-3 with a run scored.
