Lots of rain fell in Minnesota

Weather: There were many graduation parties and wedding receptions this past weekend across Minnesota, and the weather was hit and miss for most of the festivities.

Parts of Minnesota had heavy rainfall Saturday, May 31, and other areas had only scattered showers. Nevertheless, it did cause many nervous brides and graduates.

There were flooding concerns because of the potential for heavy rainfall over the weekend and into the start of this week. As a result, the National Weather Service issued a flood watch for much of Minnesota through early Monday.

In Scott County, the city of Jordan reported 4.10” of rain over the weekend. Near Redwood Falls in Redwood County 4.6” of rain was reported.

Kimball reported nearly 2” of rainfall over the weekend. Montevideo was close behind at 1.93” of rain.

Alexandria reported 1.38” of rain at the airport through Sunday night.

Morris had 1.78” of rain over the weekend. Elbow Lake wasn’t far off at 1.68” of rain.

Sebeka reported .82” of rain over the weekend. Cass Lake through Monday morning had 1.13” of rainfall.

Menahga had heavier rainfall reported over the weekend with a grand total of 2.65”.

In addition, strong thunderstorm winds in Sherburne County toppled numerous trees Saturday.

Unfortunately, it looks like this Saturday we could experience more showers and thunderstorms. Lingering rainfall is possible for Sunday as well. Temperatures will be cooler than average this weekend.

Have a fun first weekend in June.

Weather history: On this date in 1935 “the latest official measurable snowfall in Minnesota was at Mizpah with 1.5 inches.”

Weather fact: Did you know that nine out of ten lightning bolts strike land rather than oceans?
