Holiday Fundraiser Party Dec. 6

The Camps of Courage and Friendship Auxiliary invite you to attend their Annual Holiday Fundraising Party at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, at the Camp Friendship Dining Hall, 10509–108th St. NW,
Annandale. The evening features hors d’oevures and a dessert buffet, wine and beer sampling by Coborns, 50-50 drawing event (last year $1,000 was given back in prizes), more than 100 silent auction baskets and door prizes. All proceeds benefit programs for children and adults with disabilities. Advance tickets are $20 and are recommended as tickets may be limited at the door. Isaac’s Foundation donates $40,000 to the U of M

Since the Foundation began in January of 2008, more than $185,000 has been raised to sponsor an Endowment Chair with the University of Minnesota, Isaac’s HOPE Fund for Curing Childhood Cancer. Isaac’s Foundation has reached a level of support with the U of M where our research dollars have been distributed upon much needed programs W-Isaacs-Foundation-2013-photooverseen by our Medical Advisory Committee, Pediatric Hematologist Oncologist Drs. Joseph Neglia and Brenda Weigel.

Last year, the U of M made progress in many priority areas in pediatric cancer research and Isaac’s Foundation is a valued partner in this work. We’d like to highlight two areas in particular that the University of Minnesota has made significant strides.

CP releases 2013 Holiday Train schedule

Landmark 15th year of helping to feed local communitiesHoliday Train Santa dancing

The CP Rail Holiday Train will pass through our area and stop Sunday night, Dec. 15. Approximate times of stops: 6 p.m. Buffalo, 7:30 p.m. Annandale, 9 p.m. Kimball. No stop is planned for Eden Valley this year, but will pass through town around 10:30 p.m.

The schedule, available on CP’s website at www.cpr.ca, and on CP’s Facebook page, outlines plans for the “train of lights” to partner with communities in raising food and money for local food banks.

Dinner and dance Dec. 6, benefits Carol’s Kids

Children in Zambia being rescued from streets

Interested in enjoying a fun evening that has meaning and purpose this holiday season? How about paying for a good meal and a dance that benefits orphaned street children?

The Minnesota-based nonprofit, Action for Children-Zambia, celebrates its 10th anniversary with a Dinner and Dance Gala starting with a 6 p.m. social hour Friday, Dec. 6, at Reichel’s Event Center in Annandale. Proceeds from the event pay for housing and educating children rescued from the streets of Lusaka, Zambia, by Carol McBrady, who grew up in Maple Lake.

McBrady (Mama Carol to the kids), who lives fulltime in Zambia, is in Minnesota for a visit and is the honored guest. She will tell stories about some of the 200 children that now lead productive, happy lives and how her homes in the city of Lusaka and on a farm are filled to capacity with 112 kids. Her theme is “Making Room For One More” as she hopes to grow AFCZ to help more W-Carol kidschildren leave the dangers and horrors of street life.

Watkins Senior Citizens’ Christmas Party Dec. 4

The Watkins Senior Citizens plan their Christmas Party for Wednesday, Dec. 4, at St. Anthony Manor. Social hour is 5:30 p.m., and chicken dinner with all the trimmings will be served 6 p.m. You will need to let them know if you are attending. The price is $7 per member, and $8 for non-members.

The Senior Citizens would be interested in having new members join their club, so please sign up for the Christmas Party, they can collect your dues for the next year. Dues are $2 per year.
