National Night Out celebrated in Kimball

The Kimball Fire Department hosted National Night Out at the Fire Hall Aug. 5 as well, with free food and more, and kids w-140805-NatNtOut-K-09got to climb on the fire trucks.

The Meeker County Mounted Posse visited the Watkins Fire Hall for National Night Out Tuesday evening, Aug. 5. Therew-140805-NatNtOut-W-21was also an police dog demonstration.

One-car accident on Hwy. 15

Sunday, Aug. 10, at 3:38 p.m. the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office, Watkins Ambulance, and Minnesota State Patrol responded to a one-vehicle roll over at 35572 MN Hwy 15. Aaron Hoffman, 18 years old from Detroit Lakes MN was traveling South on MN Hwy 15 when his vehicle caught the edge of the road. Aaron then over-corrected causing him to lose control of the vehicle and rolling into the East ditch. Hoffman was treated on scene for non-life threatening injuries and was taken to Hutchinson Hospital.

The accident is under investigation by the Minnesota State Patrol.


Phase One of jail remodel complete


The first phase of the Stearns County jail remodeling project is finished. Phase one involvedCell-RGB reconstructing the first floor of the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) to accommodate the female housing unit and work release inmates, both of which were previously on the second floor.

Moving the female inmates to the first floor allowed for the addition of another 11 beds, going from 9 to 20 in the female unit. This is a growing jail population and will reduce the need to pay for transporting women to jails in other counties.


Dead man found in Sauk River

At 12:47 p.m Sunday, Aug. 10, the SCPD received a 911 call where the caller said a man was found in the Sauk River. He had been pulled out and onto the shore. He was unresponsive and blue. Officers from the SCPD, members of the
St. Cloud Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance responded. All efforts to resuscitate the victim were unsuccessful at the scene and he was pronounced dead. The SCPD requested Stearns County Sheriff’s Office to respond and assist with the investigation.
