Kimball speech team takes second place in Sub-Section

The Kimball speech team took second place at the Sub-Section speech tournament in Eden Valley-Watkins High School Thursday, April 4. They are coached by Jody Markgraf, Carelynn Hillstrom, and Robin Dockery.W-Kimball-Speech-Sub-Section-runner-up

Placing as alternates for the Section speech meet were: Second alternate in Informative–Abbey Schiefelbein, and in Storytelling–Kim Fennema. First alternate in Discussion–Tashi Kunkel, and in Poetry–Eryn Eken.

KAHS Speech team conference championship

KAHS Speech takes second conference championship in three years.W-champs2013

In the 13 years that Jody Markgraf has been coaching, there has not been one speech meet missed because of weather. This year, there were three, including their home meet and Central Minnesota Conference meet. April 1, the team travelled to Belgrade for a rescheduled CMC meet.

KES collected lots for Food Shelf

Student Government at Kimball Elementary School headed up a food drive for the Kimball Area Food Shelf. Even
W-IMG 3946 with two snow days during their collection time, students throughout the school donated 1,842 items and $187 in cash. Student Government leaders (fifth- and sixth-graders) picked up the items, then sorted and packed them for delivery to the Food Shelf. Students communicate across oceans and continents

Despite nearly 6,000 miles of distance, these sixth-graders at Kimball Elementary School were able to chat and W-George-via-Skypelaugh with classmate George Matua (who can be seen on the SmartBoard in the background) Wednesday, March 20, in the school’s science lab. George was in the country of Georgia for his grandmother’s 80th birthday. His classmates’ favorite thing was to hear him speak in Georgian. At this point, George had been gone nearly two weeks and he was near the end of his stay. Students here were all ready to sing “Happy Birthday” to George’s grandmother, but the wi-fi connection in Georgia was lost when the computer was moved. Even though having video and audio work simultaneously using Skype was a challenge, they all enjoyed being able to keep in touch.

KES students learn about CAD software and 3-D design

Friday, Feb. 22, Kurt Helgeson and Chuck Hentges from SCSU came to Kimball to instruct students in grades five and six on the CAD software Auto Desk Inventor. Students learned how to use the software to create a basic shape, make a hole, extrude the design, change the view of their 3-D design, and then change the material for the part they created.
