The legislature is back in session after the holiday weekend and the final push to the end of session will take place in the next few weeks. As you know, there are a number of things in play this year that are likely to create more issues for our school district and are likely to cost more money. Some of these include:
• A new bullying law that will mandate training/planning with no increase in revenue to offset the additional costs to implement;
• Educator evaluation implementation that requires more administrative time to implement observations, evaluations, and follow up; again, with no increase in revenue;
• Federal health care reform (ACA) requirements that are challenging to understand and, as it is implemented, will likely increase the number of eligible employees and make for higher costs for our school district to implement;
• HF 573/SF 446 – the mandatory health insurance bill that will likely take away some of our local decision-making, and complicate the implementation and timelines of the Affordable Care Act.
Senior of the Week:
The EV-W School District would like to recognize Paige Thielen, daughter of Thomas. Paige is committed to achieve academic excellence as she’s enrolled in numerous college credit classes, and will graduate with honors. She is also a wonderful role-model and leader within her community as she serves big brothers/big sisters and the local community center. The EV-W administration, faculty and staff are extremely proud of your accomplishments. Congratulations!
