In July, IMPACT went on a field trip to St. John’s Arboretum. We walked a trail taking us through the prairie, wetlands, hardwood forest, and oak savanna. We also walked through willow stick sculpture houses. We had an incredible outdoor adventure on this field trip.
Artist Patrick Dougherty created a masterpiece out of saplings (mostly willow) from St. John’s Abbey Arboretum. There will be a public celebration for the completion of the sculpture from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, at the sculpture site. Submitted photo.
The state of Minnesota now knows what the folks in Eden Valley and Watkins have known for some time: agriculture teacher Tracy Huhn is one of the state’s best.
Huhn learned that she has received an Honorary American FFA Degree which is given to teachers who have created high-quality agricultural education programs. Other qualifications are that 85 percent of the teacher’s agriculture students are in FFA and the teacher must have been an agriculture instructor for at least 10 years.
Huhn, who teaches in the Eden Valley-Watkins school district, was one of 54 teachers in the nation and one of two in state to receive the award this year.
Eden Valley-Watkins Elementary and Secondary Schools will host an open house from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28. This is an excellent opportunity for parents and students to meet staff and to become better acclimated with each building prior to the start of school Tuesday, Sept. 3. Everyone is welcome to attend, and refreshments will be served.
If anyone has particular questions pertaining to school or open house, please call Rob
