ECFE Harvest parties at EV-W and Kimball

The Early Childhood and Family Education program at EV-W and Kimball held Harvest parties last week for ECFE students and their families. There were crafts, like carving W-IMG 4387pumpkins or (above) pounding golf tees into pumpkins, and making paper hats; and activities in the gym (right). And, of course, a Harvest-themed snack time with pretzels and Honeycrisp apples. These photos were taken at the EV-W ECFE party at Watkins Elementary School Monday, Oct. 28. The Kimball ECFE party was Tuesday, Oct. 29. Staff photos by Jean Doran Matua.

EV-W High School Scholastic Book Fair Nov. 12-14

The Eden Valley-Watkins High School Media Center will once again be hosting the Scholastic Book Fair. It will be set up in the Media Center Tuesday-Thursday, Nov. 12-14. During parent, student, and teacher conferences the evening of the Nov. 14, we move to the brand new Brook Street Lobby which is now the main entrance to the school.

W-EVW-Book-Fair-IMG 1630The Scholastic Book Fair is a great way to start your holiday shopping. We are requesting that Scholastic add a selection for older teens. This was a big hit last year. By purchasing books for your family you will be helping our media center expand our book collection. For every book purchased, 40 percent of the price is retained to buy needed materials for the high school media center. The right book can hook a young person onto a life-long love of reading.

Two local schools honored by state

Kimball Elementary has been named a Reward School for being among the top 15 percent of Title I schools in the state based on high performance on the MMR (Multiple Measurements Rating). The reward for this achievement is public recognition.

Eden Valley Elementary School has been named eligible to be a Celebration School for being in the 15 to 40 percent performers of Title I
schools in the state, again based on MMR. An application must be submitted to the state, and those selected will be announced in January. About 10 percent of applicants will receive the recognition as Celebration Schools.

“Title I” schools accept financial assistance based on high numbers of students from low-income families.

MMR is a new system of measuring school performance, now that Minnesota schools are waived from “No Child Left Behind” requirements.
