Accident with injury in Brockway Twp.
David Skroch of Rice, and his 16-year-old daughter Kathryn were trying to round up cattle that had escaped from the Skroch family farm located at 41723 105th Ave. in Brockway Township. The two were using a 1984 Chevrolet pickup with a flatbed belonging to David. Kathryn was riding on the flatbed. A sudden truck movement caused Kathryn to lose her position and she fell onto the tarred roadway, striking her head. David, upon seeing this, immediately called 911. Deputies from the
Stearns County Sheriff’s Office, St. Stephen Fire and Rescue, Gold Cross Ambulance, and North Memorial Life Link helicopter responded. Kathryn was readied for transport and was airlifted to St. Cloud Hospital for treatment of her injuries.
With April, May and June combining for the highest percentage of unbelted teen deaths during the past three years, the Minnesota Department of Public Safety (DPS) Office of Traffic Safety is urging parents of teens to reinforce safe driving habits for their children during prom season and the end of the school year.
There were 30 teen motor vehicle occupant deaths in April, May and June during the past three years, and 63 percent (19) of those killed were not buckled up.
Lynden Twp. crash with injuries
Saturday, April 13, at about
9:39 p.m., the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office learned of a possible car crash with injuries that may have occurred in Stearns County. Deputies were able to locate the crash scene on County Road 145, just west of Fifth Avenue in Lynden Township.
A 1996 Toyota Corolla driven by Troy Chevalier, age 42, of Clearwater, was driving east on County Road 145. The car went off the roadway and struck a tree. The driver was taken to the St. Cloud Hospital by friends. Alcohol is believed to be a factor. The crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office. The St. Cloud Police Department, and Kimball Police Department assisted.
Secure Your ID Day comes to St. Cloud
As part of Secure Your ID Day, the Better Business Bureau of Minnesota and North Dakota (BBB) will host its first free shredding event in Minnesota on Saturday, April 20, in St. Cloud. The event will take place from 9 a.m. to noon at the St. Cloud State University Welcome Center, on 355 Fifth Ave. S., outside in the parking lot and inside the lobby.
Barn fire west of Litchfield
Wednesday, April 3, at 5:12 p.m., the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call of a barn on fire located at 59157 US Highway 12, west of Litchfield. Meeker County Deputies and the Litchfield Fire Department were dispatched to the scene. The Litchfield Fire Department requested and received mutual aid, in the form of tankers and man power, from Grove City Fire Department, Cosmos Fire Department, and the Dassel Fire Department.
