Kimball Area Schools nominate students for ExCEL Award

Kimball Area Schools have nominated Cameron Hunt and Shelby Schiefelbein for the ExCEL (Excellence in Community, Education and Leadership) Award.

Sponsored by the Minnesota State High School League, ExCEL is a unique recognition program designed exclusively for Minnesota high school juniors. Students who are active in fine arts and/or athletic activities, who show leadership qualities, and who are model citizens in their community are eligible for the award. This is the 17th year that the Minnesota State High School League has sponsored the ExCEL Award.

ExCEL Award recipients are selected through a multi-level process that involves League member schools and an independent panel of judges from schools throughout Minnesota. Award recipients will be recognized on KSTC TV (Channel 45) during the winter tournaments.

“The ExCEL Award program is an excellent opportunity for high school juniors who have excelled to receive statewide recognition for their leadership and community service. The ExCEL award recognizes students who excel in academics, activities, fine arts and community service.

Cameron is the son of Jim and Lori Hunt. Cameron participates in football, basketball and baseball. He was selected to the CMC All-Conference Team in football and basketball. In football, Cameron was also selected as the CMC Co-Most Valuable QB and Most Valuable Offensive Player. In fine arts, Cameron, plays in the KHS band and jazz band. Cameron volunteers at his church, Vacation Bible School, and the elementary basketball program.

Shelby is the daughter of Don and Jennifer Schiefelbein. Shelby has been actively involved in volleyball, softball and a basketball manager. Shelby was on the CMC All-Conference Academic Team. She is actively involved in band, pep band, woodwind choir, choir, choir ensemble, and speech. She is also involved in knowledge bowl, student government, and Mock Trial. She was a MN Beef Ambassador and in the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association Speech Contest. She volunteers in her church, 4-H, senior dining crafts, Santa Store, Food Shelf and MN Beef Expo.
