Three teachers retire, principal resigns

At the March 19 Kimball School Board meeting, the board unanimously accepted retirement requests for three teachers effective at the end of this school year. Ann Palm (who teaches grade 3) has taught at KES for 37 years. Steve Palm (who teaches kindergarten); he and his wife Ann met during their first year teaching at KES 37 years ago. Kim Pelzer (who teaches science and health and P.E. at KAHS); all of her 38 years of teaching have been at Kimball Area High School.

Teacher Hannah Paggen’s teaching contract will not be renewed.

The board also accepted the resignation of Elementary principal James Houseman.

Based on participation, a junior high track coach was added, and a golf coach removed (no cost change).

Negotiations on a contract with teachers are again at a standstill with the committee. A meeting March 20 was scheduled with union representatives and superintendent Tritabaugh to clarify language of the proposed contract.

The 2014-2015 school calendar was approved. It is much like this year’s school calendar, with May 28 being the last day of school and graduation day.

At 7:50 p.m. the meeting was closed to discuss non-public data regarding staff.
