Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted the 56-55 victory. The Lakers (7-0 CMC, 14-1) were led by seniors Abby Miller and Gabby Gruenhagen, and sophomore Cozy Eastman, who all finished with 13 points. The Eagles move to 9-4 overall and they stand at 4-2 in the Central Minnesota Conference.
The EV-W seventh-grade girls basketball team played in the 32nd Annual Litchfield Snowball Tournament Saturday, Jan. 25, and took first place. Friday, Jan. 31, the Eden Valley-Watkins girls’ basketball team welcomed to town the girls from Pierz, and defeated them, 69-47. Junior Greta Stommes led Eden Valley-Watkins with 18 points. The Lady Eagles racked up a couple of double-doubles as well. Junior Mikayla Kummet had 14 points and 11 rebounds and senior Dani Nelson added 13 points and 11 rebounds for the victorious Eden Valley-Watkins squad. The Eagles now stand at 10-4 overall and a very respectable 5-2 in conference play.

Following a week with no action, the Eden Valley-Watkins wrestlers journeyed over to Royalton Friday, Jan. 24, and lost, 46-9. The match featured more opens than a revolving door, as the Eagles managed just two individual victories. In the 126-pound division, Hunter Mathies scored a PIN over the Royals’ Joe Jensen, and 160-pound Cain Renner captured an 8-1 decision over Brad Kroll.
Stars’ senior goalie Ellary Sweep, swept the crease clean all night, as the River Lakes’ girls claimed a 4-0 shutout over Brainerd/Little Falls. The Stars broke the hearts of the Flying Warriors’ faithful at the Brainerd Civic Center Tuesday, Jan. 21, out-peppering the home team in shots, 42-10.
