October KAHS Students of the Month

In order to recognize achievement, outstanding progress, and responsible behavior in our student body, grade-level teams made up of w-studentsMoNovteachers select one Kimball Area High School student in each grade to be recognized as the Student of the Month. The monthly winners are recognized in school, on the school website, and in the Tri-County News. They also receive a Dairy Queen gift certificate and Chamber Bucks from the Kimball Area Chamber of Commerce. Special thanks to Annandale’s Dairy Queen and the Kimball Chamber of Commerce for sponsoring this program. The following students are recognized for October 2013.

Veterans celebrated at Kimball

W-IMG 4881KIMBALL held a program at the high school with students from grades 3-12 at 10 a.m. Veterans Day, Nov. 11. Local veterans (above) were asked to sit in front of the students for the program. The Kimball Legion Auxiliary and Junior Auxiliary presented the flag-folding ceremony, and the POW-MIA table. 2013 Girls’ Stater Erin Diffley spoke. Guest speaker Jack Young was unable to attend, but the moving video of his 2010 Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., was played. The students were quiet and respectful, which says a lot. The program ended with all singing “America, the Beautiful.”

Educational support staff honored at dinner

An event honoring Central Minnesota’s educational support staff was held Monday, Sept. 30, at the River’s Edge Convention Center, St. Cloud.

In its fourth year, 101 people were honored from 27 school districts. The event honors those who work as bus drivers, custodians, cooks, paraprofessionals and other staff who help keep schools running smoothly.

“Resource is proud to give recognition to the education support staff,” said Rob Cavanna, CEO of Resource. “They are an integral part of our school districts and help them run efficiently on a daily basis. They promote student achievement, ensure student safety and contribute to the establishment and promotion of a positive and safe instructional environment,” he added.

Teachers honored at LEEA banquet

Wednesday, Oct. 30, area teachers were honored for their accomplishments at the River’s Edge Convention Center in St. Cloud. Two teachers from Eden Valley-Watkins School District and two teachers from the Kimball Area Schools were selected to be recognized. More than 475 people attended the event to honor 151 educators with a plaque and certificate from Governor Mark Dayton. This banquet marked the 22nd anniversary of the Leaders in Educational Excellence Awards (LEEA) event.

Being honored from the Eden Valley-Watkins School District were Rebecca Kuechle, secondary special education teacher, and Karen Svihel-Buermann who teaches first grade. Superintendent Mark Messman was also there in support of the honors.

Chosen to receive honors from the Kimball teaching staff were Mrs. Kathryn Winkelman, who teaches FACS, Family and Consumer Science, and Andrea Welter, second-grade teacher at Kimball Elementary School. Jim Houseman, KES principal also attended the ceremony.

ECFE Harvest parties at EV-W and Kimball

The Early Childhood and Family Education program at EV-W and Kimball held Harvest parties last week for ECFE students and their families. There were crafts, like carving W-IMG 4387pumpkins or (above) pounding golf tees into pumpkins, and making paper hats; and activities in the gym (right). And, of course, a Harvest-themed snack time with pretzels and Honeycrisp apples. These photos were taken at the EV-W ECFE party at Watkins Elementary School Monday, Oct. 28.
