Annandale resident and St. Cloud North Junior High School sixth-grade science teacher Joe Brennan is the new Kimball Area High School varsity football coach. Holding circa 10 years coaching experience, Brennan has worked at Big Lake, Dassel/Cokato, Kennedy Community, and St. Cloud Apollo. Joe was raised in, and attended high school at nearby Glencoe, Minn., where he was active in football, wrestling, and track and field. After his 2001 graduation, Brennan went on to St. Cloud State University, majoring in elementary education and playing football for the Huskies. His wife, Nicole, teaches special education at the Annandale Middle School, and they have two young kids, Brooklynn and Zach.
In order to recognize achievement, outstanding progress, and responsible behavior in our student body, grade-level teams made up of teachers select one Kimball Area High School student in each grade to be recognized as the Student of the Month. The monthly winners are recognized in school, on the school website, and in the Tri-County News. They also receive a Dairy Queen gift certificate and Chamber Bucks from the Kimball Area Chamber of Commerce. Special thanks to the Kimball Chamber of Commerce and a private donor for sponsoring this program. The following students are recognized for April 2014:
The annual Kimball Senior High Spring Choir Concert will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 15. It will be held in the Cafetorium at the Kimball Area High School. Featured in the concert will be “I Believe” and “Gloria in Excelsis Deo” which earned the choir the State Superior Award, the highest possible award. Many soloists, duets, and trios will also be performed. Metals will be presented to State Superior soloists, as well as certificates to excellent award students.
The public is cordially invited to attend this concert presented by our talented Kimball Area High School students. The director is Arlene Sands, and Lori Miller will accompany some numbers.
The Minnesota Farm Bureau Federation’s Young Farmers & Ranchers Committee and the Minnesota Farm Bureau Foundation worked with the Minnesota FFA to sponsor the 12th FFA/Farm Bureau Discussion Meet competition. Fourteen regional FFA finalists from across the state competed at the Minnesota State FFA Convention on Sunday, April 27, at the Continuing Education Conference Center Building on the University of Minnesota campus.
Rebekah Aanerud of the Morris Area FFA Chapter won the competition and Shelby Scheifelbein of the Kimball FFA Chapter took second place. Joe Ramstad of the Forest Lake FFA Chapter and Jackson Triplett of the Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted FFA Chapter advanced to the final round. Aanerud and Scheifelbein both receive a college scholarship sponsored by the Minnesota Farm Bureau Foundation.
