Holy Cross School raises $8,040

Holy Cross Catholic School raises $8,040 through Catholic United Financial Raffle

Students at Holy Cross Catholic School could relax and celebrate Thursday, after raising a grand total of $8,040 for their school this year through the Annual Catholic Schools Raffle.

Holy Cross Catholic School students took part in the Catholic United Financial fundraiser that raised $923,635 for Catholic schools in Minnesota, South Dakota and North Dakota this year.

Catholic United covers all costs associated with this raffle, printing more than 300,000 tickets and purchasing more than $54,000 in prizes. That means schools like Holy Cross Catholic School keep every dollar their children raise.

“It’s a privilege to be part of something that does such direct giving back,” Catholic United Financial President Harald Borrmann said during the ceremony. “Two million dollars in four years? That’s got to be the number-one fundraiser for Catholic Schools in the Midwest, don’t you think?”

Catholic United’s Spiritual Director, Bishop John M. LeVoir of the Diocese of New Ulm, presided, drawing winners from an eight-foot wide raffle drum.

“It’s just excellent,” LeVoir said. “All the money goes back to the schools, and [ticket buyers] have a chance to win prizes. It doesn’t get any better than that!”

Along with the financial relief this program provides, Catholic United also rewarded top sellers and classrooms at each school, and the top three schools in terms of per-student ticket sales. The top performing schools include
St. Francis of the Lakes of Brainerd, Minn., (also the top-selling overall school), Holy Cross in Kimball,  and St. Mary’s in Pine City, Minn. Each will receive a SMARTboard package from Catholic United, valued at about $3,500.

The Annual Catholic Schools Raffle has raised more than $2,011,000 for Catholic schools in

Minnesota and the Dakotas since 2009. It will return in 2014 with goal of raising another $1 million.
