EV-W boys suffered their second loss of the early season Tuesday night, Dec. 18, at the hands of the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Jaguars. The Eagles were defeated 63-47, marking back-to-back road losses. The Eagles started out on fire, as they built a 15-2 advantage in the first 5 minutes. But after a time out, the Jaguars turned up the defense, and took control of the game. Junior guard Brian Goodwin led the Jaguar attack with 27 points. B-B-E went on a 17-0 run to end the first half, and EV-W could not recover from that. Eagles coach Adam Langer notes fouls as an issue. “We got into foul trouble in the second half. Kirby Knutson and Jared Streit spent a lot of time on the bench.” The Eagles were led by sophomore guard Bret Mattice with 16 points and sophomore forward Jared Streit with 12. Langer said that when a guy gets hot, there’s not much that can be done. “Goodwin was very good. We could not slow him down.”
Next up for the Eagles is a Christmas tournament on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, Dec. 20-22, at St. John’s Prep. They open with a contest versus Rush City at 6:30, Thursday night.
