Woes continue for EV-W boys’ basketball

Hoping to get back on the winning path last week, the Eden Valley-Watkins Eagles took on the Lakers Tuesday, Jan. 8, at Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted; and hosted the Maple Lake Irish, on Friday, Jan. 11. The game v Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted was exciting to the very end. Down by seven points at the half, the Eagles outscored the Lakers the rest of the way, but it wasn’t enough, as they fell, 56-53.

EV-W’s sophomore forward Jared Streit tossed in 21 points, to lead all scorers, and teammate Bret Mattice, sophomore guard, had 17, in the losing endeavor. Alex Geislinger had
7 points; Kirby Knutson contributed 5; Brent Stenger hit one field goal, and Mitchell Lease hit one of two from the charity stripe.

The Maple Lake Irish arrived in Eden Valley-Watkins Friday night, and found gold at the end of the rainbow. Never really a close game, Maple Lake claimed the win, 69-60. The Eagles’ scoring was limited to just the starting five; Jared Streit, 19; Bret Mattice, 18; Alex Geislinger, 11; Kirby Knutson, 6; Brent Stenger, 6. The Eagles host Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City on Tuesday, Jan. 15; and travel to Rockford on Thursday, Jan. 17, to battle the Rockets.
