The Eden Valley-Watkins Eagles boys made it three straight Tuesday night, Feb. 19, beating the Rockford Rockets 54-49. Jumping out to a 10-point halftime advantage, the Eagles gave the friendly fanatics plenty to cheer about. “It was a great game. We were up 10 at half, got into some foul trouble, and Rockford cut it to one,” said Coach Adam Langer. As has been the case lately, the Eagles persevered when the Rockets tightened up the deficit.
“We fought back and made our free throws at the end to seal it,” said Coach Langer. “Brent Stenger had 12 of his 18 points in the second half, including 4 for 4 from the free-throw line in the last two minutes. Bret Mattice went 3 for 4 from the line in the last two minutes as well,” added Langer. The Eagles’ scoring attack came from senior forward Kirby Knutson, 8; sophomore guard Bret Mattice, 10; sophomore forward Jared Streit, 13; senior guard Austin Pelkey, 2; senior guard Alex Geislinger, 2; and senior forward Mitchell Lease, 1.
EV-W moves at 3-9 in conference play, and 10-11 overall. The Eagles have a big weekend, as the boys host Holdingford on Friday, Feb. 22; then hit the road for a battle with Pierz on Saturday, Feb. 23.
