The Eden Valley-Watkins soft-ballers lost two v Maple Lake Thursday night, May 2, in Eden Valley. Game one was scoreless, until the fourth inning, when the Irish logged two unearned runs on a center-field error. Maple Lake added one more unearned run after back-to-back base hits, and tallied a couple in the top of the fifth, capping the somewhat uncontested 5-1 win.
Jumping out fast in game two, EV-W grabbed a 1-0 lead after one. But the error-spirits once again haunted the Eagles, as they surrendered four unearned runs, and suddenly found themselves down 4-2 at the half-way point. However, the resilient Eagles soared back with vengeance, scoring a run in the third, and three more in the fourth, taking a 5-4 lead. With runners on second and third, and one out, EV-W failed to add any insurance runs, which proved fatal, as the Irish scored two runs on three hits in the final frame, to seal the victory, 6-5.
