The winner’s bracket of the Section 5A Softball Tournament once again featured the Eden Valley-Watkins softball team. The Eagles trounced the Isle Huskies Tuesday, May 28, 16-1, in a 5-inning affair at St. Cloud’s Whitney Parks. Eden Valley-Watkins coach Dave Dziengel is happy to be in the driver’s seat. “We put ourselves in a great position by winning this game and advancing to the Section 5A Championship for the second year in a row.” The Eagles victory was never really in doubt, as they posted 11 runs in the first 3 innings. “We hit the ball very well today as we collected
11 hits, and we were also fortunate to take advantage of 6 Isle walks and 4 hit batters,” Dziengel said.
EV-W senior Baylee Lahr was sharp, and she always seems to rise to the occasion this time of year. “Baylee Lahr did a great job pitching ahead in the count and allowing no earned runs on 5 hits, striking out 4 and issuing 1 walk,” said coach Dziengel. The Eagles advance to the championship game and will again face Isle, who defeated Osakis in today’s second game, 7-4. The Eagles/Huskies game is slated for Thursday, May 30, 1 p.m. at Whitney Fields in St. Cloud. A second game will immediately follow if needed in the double elimination schematic.
