The Eden Valley-Watkins volleyball team played at the Howard Lake Waverly-Winsted invitational tournament Saturday,
Sept. 7, and came away with a victory and two losses. Hoping to get in a little more playing time, the Eagles entered the challenge and took on some pretty stiff competition. Coach Andrea Huschle summed it up. “We played in a tough pool and have not seen the speed a few of the teams had today. NYA and Maple Grove ran a very quick offense that threw us for a loop. Throughout the day we started to catch on and tried to modify as needed.” EV-W lost to the Raiders of Norwood-Young America, 15-25 and 10-25. They dropped a 2-0 decision to Maple Grove, 17-25, 14-25. But all was not lost as the Lady Eagles beat St. Cloud Christian School in straight sets, 25-10 and 25-14. The “varsity only” invitation gave the Eagles a great opportunity to see some different competition, and it should prove to be an invaluable experience as they move through the long season.
