Opening the Central Minnesota Conference football season on the right foot, Eden Valley-Watkins snatched a closely battled decision at Rockford Friday, Sept. 6, with a 26-21 victory. The Eagles owned the first half, putting up 20 in the second quarter alone, on the strength of senior quarterback Nick Pauly’s arm. Pauly threw for 241 yards and two touchdowns, while sophomore running back DeShaun James seemed to be everywhere, grabbing 86 receiving yards, rushing for 50 yards, and scoring two touchdowns, one receiving and one on a 40-yard interception return. The Eagles defense stiffened in the second half and held off a Rockford late game comeback effort.
