Central Minnesota Conference Class-A Cross Country Champion Emily Donnay raced Saturday, Nov. 2, in the MSHSL State Cross Country Meet at Northfield’s
St. Olaf College facility. Snapping the 4-kilometer run finish line with a time of 15:14.1, Emily finished in a most impressive 10th place, shattering the school record by more than one minute. Emi Trost, a Cannon Falls senior, captured first place, with a 14:40.3;
St. Paul Academy & Summit’s Mary Naas was second with a time of 14:50.5; and Becca Wilkin of Trinity took third place with a time of 14:52.3.
The admirable showing at state caps off a superior season for Donnay, whose 10th-place state ranking was certainly no fluke. Her top four finishes in eight outings this year are unprecedented and it’s obvious that she will only improve. Keep running,
The official school record is 16:22, held by Lisa Lyrek. Last year’s outstanding runner, Raelynn Callander, came in 105th in the state with a 16:22 time, tying that record. Donnay’s time is more than a minute off the school record.
Emily Donnay was cool and confident just after completing her 4k (nearly 2.5 miles) run. Asst. Coach Terry Nelson said Emily’s time of 15:14 is the “best any EV-W-K kid has ever run.” TCN photo by Karla Ehlinger
