EV-W boys’ basketball team splits the week

The Eden Valley-Watkins basketball team traveled to Brooten Thursday, Feb. 6, to take on the leader of the pack, Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa. In the 79-42 thrashing, the Jaguars, behind Brian Goodwin’s 24 points and Billy Borgerding’s 18, racked up their 10th straight win in the Central Minnesota Conference. They are a perfect 10-0 in league play, and sit at 19-1 overall. The Eagles were led by Jared Streit, who managed 14 points on the evening. Game scoring summary: DeShaun James, 2; Reese Jansen, 10; Bret Mattice, 7; Alex Nesenson, 2; Austin Schlangen, 7; Jared Streit, 14.

Returning to the friendly confines, EV-W welcomed in the Holdingford Huskers Saturday, Feb. 8, for a weather-postponed makeup game. The Eagles played with a bit of a chip on their shoulders, as they were hitting on all cylinders and prevailed in a runaway, 74-47. Jared Streit registered a double-double (19 points, 12 rebounds) as the Eagles cruised past the Huskers in the Central Minnesota Conference matchup. Bret Mattice led Eden Valley-Watkins with 21 points and freshman Jacob Streit scored a career-high 10 points for the Eagles (12-7). Game scoring summary: DeShaun James, 3; Jacob Streit, 10; Reese Jansen, 3; Nick Pauly, 6; Bret Mattice, 21; Alex Nesenson, 4; Austin Schlangen, 8; Jared Streit, 19.
