The Kimball boys’ basketball program recently held their end-season banquet at Kimball Area High School. A potluck meal was served for the players, managers and their parents and the coaching staff. Awards were also handed out, as coaches reflected on their seasons.
This past year the varsity team finished the season with a record of 12 wins and 14 losses overall. They had a record of 5-9 in the Central Minnesota Conference. Among the team highlights were winning the Kimball Holiday Tournament and winning their first-round playoff game at Rockford. Members of the varsity team this past season included: (seniors) Cole Denn, Brad Mies, Dallas Newman, Preston Peglow, Austin Roerick, and Connor Wittenberg; (juniors) Mathias Hennen, Cameron Hunt, and Ben Serbus; and (sophomores) Brady Faber, Jarred Merchant, Austin Marx, Will Spaulding and Joey Von Wahlde. Managers/Statisticians on this year’s team were Torey Rohloff, Miranda Albert and Madison Schreifels.
A number of awards were given out the night of the banquet. Letter winners for the 2012-2013 season included: Cole Denn, Brad Mies, Dallas Newman, Preston Peglow, Austin Roerick, Connor Wittenberg, Mathias Hennen, Cameron Hunt, Ben Serbus, Jarred Merchant and Joey Von Wahlde. The Cubs had three players named to the Central Minnesota All-Conference Team. Cameron Hunt was first team all-conference. Austin Roerick and Jarred Merchant were second team all-conference. Brad Mies, Austin Roerick, Mathias Hennen, Cameron Hunt, Ben Serbus and Joey Von Wahlde were named to the Central Minnesota Academic All-Conference Team. The Defensive MVP Award went to Preston Peglow and the Offensive MVP Award went to Cameron Hunt. Joey Von Wahlde was named Most Improved Player, Dallas Newman received the Hustle Award, and Brad Mies received the Sportsmanship Award. Kimball also had one Conference Player of the Week during the season and he was Cameron Hunt.
The basketball banquet put the finishing touches on a very successful season for the Kimball boys’ basketball program. All the coaches would like to thank the players, the player’s parents, and all the fans for making the season very special, and one to remember.
